Small business owners, advice needed.

Anyone have any input on the best account software package out there for small business?

I checked the cnet.com software reviews, but I would like some personal experiences/input.

If you mean accounting software, Quickbooks would be your best bet.

That seemed to be the general consensus on cnet.com, just wanted a second opinion, Doc. :D

Quick books for small business

Great Plains (if its still around) for a medium sized business.

We use SAP. Its Germany's revenge for WWII.

I generally agree with the Quickbooks.

This does depend somewhat on what business you are in. I set up a small business on Quickbooks only to find out their invoices couldn't provide the right combination of columns to accomodate her products.

True'r words have never been spoken sir Wodie Poodie...

I love when an SAP pop up has words in it not properly translated, or you see a word and say "WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?"

Another thing it doesn't do is compute the right withholding state tax amount. In SC our tax tables are based on whole dollars and their program figures it to the penny. I called them to complain about that and all they could come up with is that they are using the tax guidelines sent to them by each state. They told me to go in once a month or twice a month and make an adjustment for the monthly reports.

You also have to buy their tax update disks every year to update your program.

Hire a CPA! They are worth every penny you spend with them and then some! :)

Unfortunately, the way the system is set up, I have to key in and figure state sales tax manually, so that's not really a problem.

Well then everything will be fine as far as that goes.

If you want to run your own invoices, letterhead, reports, etc., order your forms from a local printer instead of buying their forms through Quickbooks. You will save a ton.

Thanks for the info on this as well.

All of my transactions both in and out are electronic, so no letterhead is needed. When I do need it, it's by request of a vendor and I've already saved the template(s) in MS Word.

I basically just need a decent account program as I am currently using an excel based system that I developed myself.

I appreciate everyone's input on this matter.
