Sleeping position

After back and leg workouts I usually feel pain in my lower back (due to squat and deads I guess)

When going to bed I feel that sleeping on my back would help ease the pain, though I'm used to sleep on my side

Would it change anything to sleep on the back ?
What 's the best position ?

Make sure that you do lots of stretching after doing leg and back workouts, that will begin to help ease the pain. Much of the lower back pain is caused by tension from the leg muscles which have common attachment sites as the lower back muscles. Laying on your back and curling into a ball, pulling your knees into your chest will begin to relieve some of the tension causing you pain.

In addition, simple hamstring stretches will also help to alleviate the pain.

As for sleeping position, if you want the optimal position for making your back more comfortable, try sleeping on your back and placing a couple of pillows under your legs raising your knees a little higher than your heart, but not much. This will also help to relieve some of the stress that is put on the lower back and continue to stretch those muscles and relieve the intervertebral pads.

Just some of my recommendations - any type of IB Proufen is also a good choice to take after those workouts when you know you're going to have pain.

sleep on your back, with a firm mattress. a friend of mine used to put a board under his bed to firm the bed up. he slept without a pillow. it takes a little getting used to. in fact, it took me 30 minutes to fall asleep in that position when i first tried it.

i know from experience that sleeping on my stomach/side just KILLS my lower back.

if your lower back is hurting after deads, you might want to work on your form a bit. when lifting, you shouldn't bend at the lower back at all. your back should be stiff and you should feel it in the mid/upper back mostly. msg me if you want more info and i can give you more tips on form. it took me a while, but i finally got the form down and my back thanks me for it :) too often i see people at the gym doing deads and using their lower back exclusively, which is poor form.

Withouit the pillow ?

It's not too hard for the cervical muscles ?

best way in my experiance is to sleep on your side with a pillow between your legs which side doesnt matter but if u have a chronic shoulder than sleep with that on the up side... stomache is the absolute worst, even know it knocks you out so easy.

Have you tried the different sleeping positions yet?

Yes :

Naturally it is on the side
On the back seems good but I need to get used to
As everybody here sais before, on the stomach is no good at all

sleeping with your neck not fully supported leads to excessive pressure on the lower back, on the entire spinal cord.

your best bet would be to buy one of those foam pillows shaped like a wave, i've seen them here on qvc, but i believe over there, they are widely available.

good luck :)

Ive seen them and even felt them, but I cant imagine they would be very comfortable to sleep on. If im not comfy I cant sleep.
