sleep disorders again :(

well, this time around, I can get to sleep pretty easily, but i wake up in the middle of the night 5 or more times filled with energy and i keep tossing around over and over and it's hard to fall back asleep. Anybody know what this is and how to cure it?

Are you under a lot of stress? Do you find your mind racing while trying to fall asleep? There are many reasons why this happens, it could be something simple such as a nutrition problem or something more deep rooted. For a short term fix try some nytol or tylenol pm. I would even try something such as valarian root, sleepy time tea or melatonin along with a boring movie 30-45 minutes before bed. If that doesn't work, try one of the otc sleep meds I listed. They are supposedly non habit forming, but if you need them more than three days in a row or more I would start to look at other things that may be the problem. Good luck.

I was thinking about using some dope to get me to sleep i hear it works wonders too :p

No, i'm not taking anything right now, i don't think i'm under a lot of stress.. and my mind does race around a bit before going to sleep, i can't stop thinking of something. and I don't take anything with caffeine. I could drop right now because i'm tired as hell but then i become not so tired as the day moves along.

i'm 35. if i have a pepsi too close to bed time, i'm fucked. i used to take every stimulant known to man, illegal included. now, i wouldn't think of it. soda is my only vice.

As a first step, just do basic stuff like eliminating light sources, making sure the room temperature is low, having earplugs or a source of ambient noise if distracting sounds are an issue, etc.

I know it's frustrating, but unless it persists, don't worry about it too much or run off to your doctor for an Ambien prescription. ;)

Do you workout / exercise later in the evening? That could be part of the problem.... of if you eat dinner very late.....

carlsuen has the right idea. if you havent had any "release" in a while in can actually cause a restless night. also, im not sure if you do or not, but dont eat many carbs within 3 or 4 hours of sleep.

Thanks everyone all very good advice. I workout at around 2 so it's nowhere near the time I sleep, but tonight I actually feel like I want to go to sleep and stay asleep lol. Tomorrow I'm going to start some of those things like eat carbs and protein until 5 or 6pm then fats and protein after that..start to rest an hour or so before bedtime...jack off..lol

dude i used have exact same problems...here is what did for me....

1. NO stimulants after 3PM
2. dont do anything too exciting 2hr before bed (sex excluded, or jerk off, lol)
3. dont take daytime naps
4. Go to bed and get up at the same time....even if you only got 1 hr sleep, get out bed same time, dont let your body get use to sleeping in.

5. Most important....if you cant fall asleep in 10-15min GET OUT OF BED!!, trying to sleep is the worst thing you can do, your mind wont let you, it wont work!
sleep has to come naturally, you cant just flip on a switch.

sweet dreams bro

If you're 15 and need to be prompted about the last one, you might have bigger problems than insomnia. ;)

T-Nation has some good articles on sleep. Here's a link to part 2 of one of them, since it has the link to part 1 in it and I don't want to post two links. :p
