Sinking the Bismarck.

Saw this documentary last night, and it was compelling. I'm far from a "history buff", but that ship was the shit in it's time.

And out of the nearly 3000 shots it took of 14,16,and 18 inch shells that were pummeling it's side, only FOUR actually penetrated the hull.
But a torpedo shot to the rudder/screw rendered it inoperable for the most part. It went in circles only, which spelled doom once it was predictable.

Seeing the ship now through the eyes of one of those "pods" those guys were in was pretty eerie. That Cameron guy's got some balls. LOL

It's pretty good Oak. I saw the documentary on the Titanic too, and it was cool.
Funny thing with that though, is that the Titanic was a story of uninformed arrogance. The iceberg itself didn't actually cause much damage to the hull of that ship. The REAL PROBLEM was that out of the nearly 3million rivets that were used on that ship, a good percentage of them were defective.
It appears they used an iron/slag ratio to make these, but had no real way of monitoring the actual amounts of each in the rivet.
When the ship hit the iceberg.................it basically just SHEARED the heads of the rivets off, causing all of that water to rush right in. Hull panels are welded in place today.

Details, details, details. LOL

The titanic was a interesting documentary aswell

Thanks for posting up the time for the replay

I really like this history type stuff,Guess im a geek or something lol

It's interesting as hell. Especially when they "take you back" and tell the story.

Then you see it laying at the bottom of the ocean. Gripping.
