I don't know if anyone has already answered this for you since it was posted a long time ago, but I thought I'd try to clarify it for you a little better.

Simple carbs are carbs comprised primarily of sugarous compounds. Things like soda, white bread, candy, fruits, and a few veggies.

Complex carbs are more sophisticated in structure and require more work from your body to break them down into a useable form of glycogen. Your body has to work to get what it wants from these, which is one of their main beneficial properties. Things like oatmeal, whole wheat rice, or any vegetable that's a bit bland or high in fiber. Grapefruit is an example of a decent carb that is a fruit. There is still sugar in it, but not much. Hope this helps a little!

I just realized a couple of errors in what I just wrote. First.. there's no such thing as whole wheat rice. I meant to say whole grains, and brown rice.

Also, grapefruit doesn't have very many carbs in it at all.. so it's not a sufficient source of carbohydrates, but it's a good low calorie, low sugar fruit to eat if you're a fruit-nut.
