Simple sugars..

Can these be consumed for a post workout meal/shake?

Or should they be avoided?

I get confused when either cutting or bulking, when or when not to take certain foods.

I was told that I should avoid ALL sugars when cutting... and when bulking, it doesn't matter. Can someone clarify that for me?
The whole concept of when or when not to consume sugar... :)

Thanks..

Sorry for the stupid question.

it is good to take dextrose or maltodextrin, a sugar, both when cutting or bulking, both are the best carbs you can choose b/c they are the highest on teh gi scale thus creating the most effective insulin spike to restore glycogen and trasport protein (also get around 50g. whey postworkout). though just regular sugar as when used with cooking is a no no, i believe it is b/c it is half fructose, fructose only restores liver glycogen not muscle glycogen, this is the same as honey as i one used this postworkout but half of its carbs are from fructose too, go for dextrose or malto. i use 75 g. dextrose and 50 g. whey postworkout both cutting and bulking.

2 Questions

1- I'm bulking.. so I need the carbs & calories. How much should I consume a day? I've read different opinions on people stating that if they consume 75mg of dextrose they get fat.. not bulky. What's an appropriate amount?

2- Besides Post workout.. can you take it for a pre workout? or any other time of the day/night?

1: if ur bulking try to get 20 X bw in cals, your carbs willcome from whatever macronutrient breakdown you choose. i reccoment 50/30/20 carbs/pro/fat, some ppl do 40/40/20 carbs/pro/fat. first if you are bulking you are gonna put on some fat, it is impossible to put on muscle and stay ripped, you can maintain but u will put muscle on at a much slower rate. as for the dextrose, you are only gonna get fat if you are eating excess cals, but this only applies to cutting or maintaining as you are bulking it doesnt matter. anywyas i just plan my diet so my 75 grams dextrose fits into the total cal amount.

2. yes you could, some ppl believe pre workout shake is more important than potsworkout, i definitely advocate postworkout sahek though as your glycogen stores have been depleted and you need to restore them, as well as create an insulin spike for protein. DO NOT take dextrose any other time of the day, it is a terrible carb choice b/c it is very high gi thus creates an insulin spike, this is very very good postworkout and the only good time for high gi carbs, other than that time go for low gi carbs as you do not need the insulin spike b/c you are not requiring energy or restoring glycogen thus the quickly absorbed carbs will not be used and stored as fat.
