Seated dumb bell presses

a few reps with 40s

a few more with 55s

5 reps with 75s

I then did a couple drop sets and an assload of raises:D Everything felt great.

hmmm... I have not done power cleans for a long time, and I sometimes do push presses immediately after standing military to go beyond failure but not all the time.
 
Good job Tiervexx!

I'm at the 75's too for seated DB press but I have some difficulty getting the DBs up to my shoulder while seated. Swinging them up is putting too much strain on my shoulders and back. I used to have a partner set them into position for me but alas he is no longer available.

So I was wondering if you had any advice on how to get them up to shoulder level without ripping something in the process (I'm getting too old I guess...)

Suggestions?
 
I clean/cheat curl the dumb bells while standing then sit into the chair with them already at shoulder level.
 
Hmm. I've been trying that while sitting down. I'll try it standing up next time.

Lately I've just been doing barbell work instead of DBs (for the very reason I outlined above). Since I'd like to switch back to the DBs I'm gonna give it a shot (I feel like I get a better shoulder workout with the DBs.).

I'm also on 75's and the way I get them up which I believe is gthe best since most people in the gym now copy me and do it, is this.

Sit down, rest DB's on legs, then bring right knee as high as poss with DB resting on it, at this point the DB is right next to shoulder and all you need to do is twist the DB to the side of shoulder. Repeat with other side. This places no strain on shoulders at all I think, seems v safe when I do it anyway.

Oh sure! Give the solution for "flexible" people! ;)

I'd be lucky if I can get my knee that high, but I'll try it as well as Tier's suggestion.

Down side is there has to be a limit. Sooner or later I'm gonna be doing this with the 85's or 90s and then I think I'm fucked and it's back to the barbell again (which is fine, I just like the DBs better).

Ya, I want to be able to use the 100s for a few before I turn 18 (January).

I will do pushpresses next time I work shoulders but I feel that all shoulder movements lose their effectiveness real fast if done to often…

LOL, my method requires almost no flexiblity and it has no limit because you should be able to clean more then you can press.

Or you could just sit down have the DBs on your knees and raise your knee up quickly so the weight pops up to your shoulder.
