I would if evading the question doesn't work which at times it didn't. I would much rather tell the truth than lie. It's obviously none of their business and asking a stranger something that personal shows an obvious lack of class but I still won't lie. Sorry if that offends you that there are still honest people out there.
The thing is most people after talking to them for 5 minutes will begin to understand why I do them and they actually become much more open minded about it as a result.

I'm not offended, don't make assumptions. I'm glad you feel you're able to educate people that you talk to about it. Good for you. As for the other stuff, again, it's easy to sit back and call names and pass judgement when you don't have the threat of legal repurcussions. I'm suprised you are unable to recognize this. I did recognize that in a previous post. But that isn't most guys concern. Their concern and worries are that people will find out they've 'cheated' or that they're fake because it is frowned upon in society. I just don't really care, I know that we're not fake and that it still takes hard ass work and discipline and that juice is just the icing on the cake.
