shoes for squatting?

what do i wear to squat in? are the expensive squat shoes my only choice? my first meet is in oct and i dont really know how many more i will do so i dunno if i can fork out 130$ for shoes.

Wrestling shoes or the popular Chuck Taylor's. Both of those are alot less expensive than squat shoes. Most importantly, a flat sole is probably what you're looking for.

What shoes do you deadlift in?

i wear chucks to dl and squat in now. i just thought they required more. thats cool. and i have knee wraps but they're generic sporting goods store ones so i think i'm gonna spring for some inzer ironwraps for knees and even wrist if i got the $ i have redline wrist wraps now.

I have Inzer knee wraps also. They've been used a couple times, but I can assure you that they are much tighter than the ones you would buy in a sporting goods store. You're welcome to have a pair of these also if you want to try them out before investing in a new pair.

Q: do you think the suit and better wraps will actually give me a weight increase since i've never used a suit? w/crappy wraps and lever belt i only squatted 345-350lb

It's no big deal. I'll never get into that suit again. And Bigguns15 is sponsored by Titan now so she no longer wears Inzer gear. I'll get the wraps in the mail to you soon. How is your knee wrapping technique? Are you comfortable with it? I can tell you that these wraps will bite down and hurt quite a bit, but they will definately give you alot of spring out of the bottom.

A: HUGE increase! HUUUUUGGEEE! Most importantly, get enough practice to feel comfortable. It may take weeks. If your 3-5+ weeks out, I suggest doing your normal work sets raw then adding then suit for a single or two just to get used to it. Then as it gets closer to the meet, perform all your sets in the suit.

i have almost 7wks left so u think i should be using the one set on speed or max days? and i guess i could do that till bout 3-4wks out and then start using it all sets. and no im not comfortable w/my wrapping. i just started doin it one day. no one really ever showed me.

I'd get practice in it at every workout since you've never used one before. It takes some getting used to. You could even practice with the straps down at first just to get used to how it feels around your hips and thighs. When that gets comfortable, put the straps up.

I can wrap Bigguns15 and video how we do it if she's willing to take the pain. Or I'll gut it out and let her wrap me. Blah!

This is the way the Russians taught her at junior worlds in 1998. First, her leg is fully extended and her quad contracted to lock her knee cap in place. Starting with a tightly rolled knee wrap, begin on knee wrap width below the knee cap. Wrap upwards covering half of the knee wrap each rotation. Wrap until one knee wrap width above the knee cap. Then go back down half way and back up until you run out of wrap. I like to tie the knee wrap off in front and at the top of the knee to create an illusion that your knee is higher. (hips will look lower at the bottom of the squat)

Below is the way Joe Ladnier recently taught us. Again you start at the bottom, but only about half a knee wrap below the knee cap. You also come up with the wrap faster and wrap until you're at the bottom portion of your outside quad muscle. Come down and across the knee, go behind, and come back up and across the knee. Finish by continuing to wrap around the top until you run out of wrap. Criss crossing the wrap is supposed to act like a hinge.

I took it easy on her. Normally I'm out of breath and sweating like I'm the one working out. :D I've had her legs bleed at meet time.

thanks alot man...that really helps. i'll try both and see how they feel but i like the concept of the 2nd one.

I may squat heavy here on a Sunday in the next few weeks and see if I can hit low 7's. Should be a breeze...but who knows. We should figure out an exact Sunday and do it all together. EVERYONE go for a big squat:)

pwr machine: thanks alot man...i just got the suit in the mail. jeez is this think suppose to stretch alot or what?lol. it looks so tiny. do these stretch more than dbl ply? i can tell now...this is gonna hurt. hopefully i can try it on tonight when my girl gets back so i have some help puttin it on. thanks again man.

what should i wear under it? i was gonna wear compression shorts but the legs on the suit are too short for that. the shorts would stick out underneath. i dont have poly briefs or anything yet.

This Sunday we should have a big crew:

Clint
brian747478'
Jason
Lynn
Cheese (the return)
Kingc

This weekend we can talk with everyone and see who all is interested in going for a big squat. Jason, Lynn, and brian747478 probably have no business maxing out this close to Nationals on Event day...but myself, Cheese, and you might.

no, i've had no one here to help me. i have de bench tomorow but i think ill try it on anyways just to see if it fits and get the feel. what height was the person who shortened the straps?

Around 5'8". Even if you don't get a workout in, at least try to get it over your legs and butt. If you can get it that far, it should work. And if you have to cut the stitch to lengthen the straps, do it. However, I'm thinking it should stretch to give you a nice fit. I could be wrong. Wish I were able to help.

I usually just wear my regular underwear, but use baby powder to help slide it up my legs. Keep inching it up and lunge side to side to keep moving it up. You know it's going to be tight!

This is how Bigguns15 looks in her squat suit. Notice the crease between the black and the red is in line with the crease of the hip. This is where it is supposed to be. Even though yours is all black, it has a seam in the same place. I've noticed on lifters with bigger quads, the suit rides higher up.

Just to be safe, you're welcome to take the suit to a seamstress and run over those straps with some heavy duty thread if they are the right length.

From the way you describe it, the suit sounds like a pretty good fit!

i compared her pic to the pic i took and looks like i had it pretty close. my quads arent big but i think its gonna ride pretty high on me. thanks for the pic
