how long did it last for?
its a post-herpetic neuralgia causing pain, which means normal pain meds aren't as effective as they could be
have they suggested anything else for pain relief? And how did you take any medication early on in the shingles (it can be very hard to be diagnosed and treated so most people miss this window)

Ask your physician for some lidoderm if you aren't allergic. It's a lidocaine gel on a patch that will numb the area.

Dude, DO NOT SUFFER WITH THIS SH*T. Some GP doctors blow this off, trust me, I know, chickenpox nearly killed me when I was 27, and half the reason was because the doctor told me to stop being such a whiner. It was the sickest I'd ever been, but I also had neuralgic pain running through my body sh*t would drop me like a punch from God.
Get drugs, DEMAND drugs!!! Tell the doctor that your pain is off the scale. Get a referral to a neurologist or a pain center if he won't help you. Go to an ER, you tell them you can't eat or sleep or function because of the pain, that will get you major pain meds and in to see a neurologist or the pain specialist ASAP.
Good luck NYC, it won't last forever but it will have to run its course ...

i got them bout 2 weeks ago. i got valtrex and cream. mine itches when im hot or when i sweat but it sounds like u got it worse. its started on my back but now i have it right in the middle of my chest just above my abs. i asked my doc n coaches, they claim itll be w me for at least 3 weeks. valtrex sux ass though it gives me loose stools n horrible stomach aches. i feel ur pain
