Shawn took what any of the other guys took in the 80's and 90's. There are no magic cycles or training programs for why a certain guy looks the way he does. It's genetics.
But speaking of training, I know Shawn started with the popular 4 day a week program. Hitting upper body monday and thursday, lower tuesday and friday. Then he later switched to the three on, one off program. Basically what every other guy in the 80's and 90's did.
One good thing (and bad to some) is he never changed. I consider it good because he didn't give into the size game. The rest of the bodybuilding world considers it bad because they view it as him being a 'lazy' bodybuilder who never made a single change to his physique in the years he competed. Oh well! Better than having a big gh/slin/igf1 gut.
Shawn was/is a very hungry bodybuilder/businessman. A good role model for those in the sport.
Shawn no longer competes and it's unlikely he will again. The health risks just aren't worth it to him. He is still very much involved in the sport though. You can find him at just about any large show, expo, online radio bodybuilding show radio broadcasts, magazines and he is still sponsored by a supplement company. He even hosts a charity golf event each year. I even think he posts at one of the bodybuilding sites, but I am not sure which.
I understand what you mean about each of us having our own personal role models. We all need someone to look up to and help get us fired up for a workout, to stay the course, etc. But remember everyone has their own set of genetics. You can't be anyone else, but you can make sure to be the best you possible. Good luck brother
