Seedless Watermelon

If "seedless watermelon" is really seedless then how are new crops planted? If the "seedless watermelons" aren't seedless then isn't that false advertising? Shouldn’t it be called "Almost Seedless Watermelon"?

They are planted from seeds produced by "mother" melons. Only a certain percentage of melons are mother melons, the rest are sterile seedless melons.

This is my theory anyway.

Also, it wouldn't be false advertising, because seedless watermelon is the melon's name, not how it is advertised. Just like rocky mountain oysters aren't really oysters...

FWIW

Mother melons...

For some strange reason... it reminds me of the Alien series. Don;t askme why - it just does.

Never thought about it being the name "seedless watermelon"... very good point.

I think they actually do vine splicing- like tey do with grapes. Read something about it when I was like 15, so it's been more than a little while!!

A beefless taco..... would that be a lesbian relationship?
[get it - taco... no meat...]

That's just sad.... No meat in a Taco. What a waste of a Good Taco.

Many crops today would be unsustainable in the event of a major crisis. So many of these crops do not produce seeds.
That's why those who prepare for such things store "old fashioned" seeds which grows fruits and veggies, etc. which are actually able to propagate themselves, as nature intended.
