Search Warrant Verification

OMEGALOS

New member
A friend supposedly found out through another friend who works in the court house that Special Investigations(some drug task force) has been successfully issued a warrant to search my home.
I have cleaned house and computer(although without the x-cleaner, do I really need it?). The information, lets all assume its for real, HOW WOULD I VERIFY ON MY OWN THAT THERE IS A SEARCH WARRANT FOR MY HOUSE? To know for sure, is there a way?

They'll let you know alright. Why are they searching? Get the computer OUT OF THE HOUSE. They confiscate it and get Governemet computer geeks to go into it and check for ghosts. They can read it even if you erased everything. My step mother trained with them and said it was the coolest thing she ever saw. They wouldn't teach her how to do it though. Just move the computer to a friends house.

OH-sorry. I don't think you can check, that would defeat the purpose of a search warrant, no surprise.

Exactly.

Unless you have a friend on the police force, search warrants are deffinitely NOT part of public record until AFTER they have been executed.

Sorry bud, play it safe and hide your gear;)

Can they get into internet based email systems? Not kept on my computer but on the net, you know with password and username(say hush or zip)? Even all those messages have been erased , but can they recover them somehow from some internet trash bin (nothing is in my trash or recycle bin, nothing is stored in memory of computer).
Thanks for the responses so far, everything is safe for now, just the computer Im a bit worried about.

I wouldn't worry about that unless you are some big-time dealer. Just do as the others said and get the computer out of the house. Also you should get anything you care about out of the house too. Anytime I've read these stories where they "search" your house it seems like they like to take things as evidence. In reality they steal your stuff cause you never get it back. Good luck.

Of course you can't find out ahead of time whether there is a search warrant for your house. If you could find out, no search warrant would ever be successful.
The feds can get into your internet accounts, so as everyone above has said, get your computer out of your house.
Good luck.

As far as getting into online based email accounts - they would have to know they existed. This goes back to removing your computer. IMO - better then removing your computer, I would replace the hard drive.

Replacing the hard drive would do it. Just don't use the new drive to access anything that you think would hurt you in any way.

Toss the old one. The "nerds" can bring any data back!!!!
