SARS?? wtf

Anyone else think SARS is a HUGE problem and that the overabundant war coverage is dwarfing it in terms of international awareness? Without this war headlining every news program SARS would be scaring the SHIT out of most americans...I honestly think that at its current rate of infection, SARS could soon become a worldwide epidemic.

Yes, its scary shit that isn't getting the coverage that it should.

Are you kidding?

No! That's what Mother Nature does! As sad or cruel as it seems it is one way our species has continued to survive for so long!

Oh shit, that's it? I thought this was some deadly epidemic like ebola.

I've been taking Vit.C and Zinc... plus my immunte system is strong.

Have you guys been taking immuno-boosters or what?

Actually in the long run SARS is more deadly than Ebola! Ebola kill zone happens so fast that it kills its hosts before it can spread to massive populations! That why it pops up and then burns out so fast! SARS is like the common cold virus! It will spread and be around for a long time! so 4% will die and 96% will live!

In comparison to other illnesses, no you really shouldn't worry. Even Ebola would not be much concern in North America (it would be for the 1st 100 deaths though... all relative I suppose.)

Could be, but it will have to mutate into something more contagious first.

With 2 Dr.'s in the immediate family, I'm a bit nervous just having them in my house often. Shit happens though.

I hate to say this and don't wont to scare you all! But they cannot isolate the total structure of its gene! Parts of the virus does not show up on the natural virus spectrume! Their is a debate going on if it is naturally occurring or was it Bio weapon that was accidentally released! The Chinese have a huge Bio weapons factory where the Virus was first found in the Guangdong province! But for now this info is being kept hush hush to the general public!

This may explain why the China's Centers for Disease Control hide SARS to the outside world, until well after the outbreak had loft China! They still are not realising the actual figures of those infected in China! It is believed it is extremely higher than they are reporting! None Chinese Scientists that have been in the region are starting to confirm this now! Regardless of what the cause will be China's actions are only continuing to make it look guilty! Which in the end they may be!

It will have to mutate in order to cause a major health crisis. What I mean is... it will have to mutate into something more insidious in order to be anything to really worry about.

It already has with Super Hosts! Right now it seems that those infected with SARS and Syphilis can become Super Hosts, that are extremely contagious! One lady alone infected 200 people is one example of the Super Hosts!

No, why would I?

SARS has a 4% mortality rate...those are the 4% that did not get treatment or people that could no fight it off...it's evolution
hahahah you getting ran over by a mach truck and dying would then be evolution. is aids part of evolution? what about cancer? just weeding out the weak eh?

Hmmmm.. disease vs. getting hit by a truck.

Yes, that is a logical comparison

Yes, all disease is evolutionary weeding.

so if the Chinese created this deadly sars for some sort of biological weapon, and couldn't contain it(or it is working as they planned) then it is some sort of natural evolution to weed out the weak?

Evolution=Change in the genetic composition of a population during successive generations, as a result of natural selection acting on the genetic variation among individuals, and resulting in the development of new species.

it does not=man made viruses or disease

No, I was just saying that even the flu can kill a lot of people if enough people are infected.

20,000 per year die of the flu in the US!

Have to agree with 2Thick.

Our immune system is a prime example of evolution.

Its taken 1000's of years to get to where its at.

I'll give you an example:

2 Twins...A and B

1. Take Twin A an put him in a static room. No germs. Nothing

2. Take Twin B and put him out in the world...with germs/microbes/virus' etc.. etc..

Until both are 18.

Then let Twin A out.

I can pretty much guarantee you Twin A is going to get sick almost automatically from a germ/microbe/virus'.

Why?

Because his immune system does not recognize it...and therefore is fighting an up-hill battle.

Twin B on the other hand..has an immune system who has already been attacked by the various germs/microbes/virus' and adapted. He can therefore repell any more attacks.

Same deal with diseases/epidemics and the human immune system.

Remember how many indians died due to the new diseases the colonists brought to the americas?

Exterminated tens of 1000's of them.....b/c their immune systems had never seen those types of germs/virus's.

Variola major is a good example..same thing with the Influenza Virus.

There is a leap in your logic.

I have always asumed that it was natural.

therefore, your post is invalid.

I take regular vitamins and I generally have a strong immune system so I feel confident I will fight it off if I get into contact with it,my sister had a crazy chest infection last week which we thought was sars but I dont think it is

No such thing as a "strong" immune system.

Either it is working or its defective.

The chances of you being infective by a Virus is proportional to the number of virus particles that enter your body and attack it.

Its not just one virus strand that attacks you. Nothing is that lethal. You have to be exposed to it for some time....so that a decent amount of virus particles can enter your body and overrun your immune system.

Probelm with SARS is that it can survive outside for extended periods of time. (This is not good). Therefore the probability of particles that can infect hosts is increased dramatically over lets say Ebola.......which just survives for barely minutes in the open.

100 people can become infected from SARS.

4 die.

5 people become infected from Ebola.

4 die.

One disease has a 4% mortality rate while the other has 80% mortality rate. HOWEVER, they killed the same amount of people b/c one virus is much more robust than the other.......and can infect a great more many people.

ic,well that sucks,I know I usually dont get sick unless I drastically change diet or stupid crap like that,I havent had the flu in a while now
