HUGE BLOW TO THE REPUBLICAN PROPAGANDA MACHINE:

NEW YORK — Radio talk show host and political commentator Rush Limbaugh (search ) admitted on his program Friday that he is addicted to painkillers.

"You know I have always tried to be honest with you and open about my life," Limbaugh said on his show. "So I need to tell you today that part of what you have heard and read is correct. I am addicted to prescription pain medication."

Limbaugh said he began taking the medication when his doctor prescribed it after spinal surgery, to treat post-operation pain. He said he's tried to break his dependence on the drugs and twice checked himself into medical facilities for treatment.

He promised listeners he would once again enter rehab for the next 30 days.

Limbaugh had already been cited as a possible target of a criminal probe into the sale and use of illegal drugs.

Limbaugh, who quit his job as a football analyst for ESPN Oct.1, had multiple sources from whom he could obtain the prescription drugs, namely OxyContin (search) and other painkillers, law enforcement sources said.

Reports in the New York Daily News and the National Enquirer alleged Limbaugh got the drugs from his housekeeper, Wilma Cline (search). But sources close to the investigation told Fox News that Limbaugh had other drug suppliers and said the popular conservative personality could face a criminal inquiry by the Palm Beach County (search) state attorney's office.

Fox News' Catherine Donaldson-Evans and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

he's pretty much shot it all already now.

i enjoyed his program. granted, it's mostly repetitive w/ the bashing of the democrats and what not, but it's still a quality program. he always seemed like a stand-up character. and i don't think that his character has suffered as much as it could have (after all, he does always keep his audience well-informed and tell them the truth for the most part.. like with telling everyone that he's addicted to painkillers), but he's not going to recover from this. 30 days w/o the program will allow someone else to take hold of much of his audience (i just hope to hell it's not the black professor from georgetown (i think it's georgetown)), and all the legal woes and negative media that are about to come with his having bought the pills illegally is sure to carry over a negative impact onto the GOP if he were to continue to keep his show.

Why is Rush Limbaugh and other wealthy celebrities "addicted to pain killers," while normal people who abuse the exact same drug are "drug addicts?"

do you listen to michael savage at all? i used to be able to put aside any comments regarding "the infidel" and religion that he used to make, mostly because they were so infrequent and b/c the rest of his show was excellent. but now, between his always stroking his own ego and his shoving christianity down the throats of his listeners, i can't listen to the fuck at all.

that and after seeing him on t.v. i think he's gap-toothed pervert.
