Rotator Cuff Issues

Just getting back into all this Ive noticed an old problem resurfacing. My rotator cuffs are killing me. Ive had issues with them for years, if I sleep with my arm in the wrong position the shoulder will hurt like hell for the next day or two. With lifting, I literally cannot do any shoulder presses without serious pain the next day.

Im wondering if my form is wrong, although its unlikely. Or maybe an old injury that I should finally get looked at.

Anyone else have this kind of pain...

Seek medical advice. Don't use anything to cover the pain because it will prolong the injury and possible cause additional injuries. Are you currently in a cycle of any sort.

Then you will benefit from seeking a physician. Natural healing time is the best there is with adequate medicine recommended by a certified Physician. It is truly my recommendation. If you're not currently cycling there is no interuption.

I used to have the same issue as you until I completely stopped doing flat bench presses. Now I do everything on an angle of some sort. SHoulder presses never hurt too bad, but the flat bench tore me up. You talk like you lifted before and now just started up again? Did you shoulders hurt like this when you werent lifting? You might want to look at what exercises you are causing you pain and work on doing another movement in their place. Usually dumbells are easier on the shoulders.

I did lift before, about 5 years ago and had the same problems. The years I didnt lift I didnt have pain. I forgot about the dumbells, they did seem to help the last go around, more freedom of movement.

get looked at
when you can, start some prehab rotator work
bring your hands in when shoulder pressing and tuck your elbows

I have the same problem, but i realized that it was because my delts were much weaker than any other upper body muscle after someone mentioned it on here. One day i maxed on flat not knowing what good form should really be and there it went. Couldent move my left arm for 1+ weeks. I refuse too see doctors seeing they don't do anything in a lot of cases, waist ur money, and can sometimes make it worse. Not saying there aren't any good ones out there that can't help though. Weaknesses are always what hurt you in the long run so you might want to check that out. Also I would suggest doing prehab and many reps with light weight. I started working out my rotary more and doing shoulder presses and and pull downs fighting through the pain for 3 weeks and now it has either stopped for the most part or i don't notice it as much.

i had problems and went to a sports physio and he told me it was cramp.
got rid of mine by working out what exercises i could and could not do.
1. flat bench press only if i used the top two thirds of the range of motion. ie not touching the chest.
2. no incline bench but incline dumbells
3. no upright rows.
4. lightweight lateral raises only.
5. no shoulder machines. free weights only.
6. using extremely good form and working my way back up in poundages.
7. decline bench ok for me also.
8. hammer chest press ok.
9. also took a long time to build up the flyes as well.

Strange but true i was getting restricted motion in the shoulder.. Was at an MMA class and we had to do clap press ups. I felt something rip in my shoulder on the way down and this freed my range of motion up but also allowed me then to do incline bench.

i would bet that 3 out of 4 people who swore off flat benching and full range of motion, bench with their elbows flared out.

All the bros in here have hit every angle. I would reinforce what they say. A doc would be the best thing. You may have torn your rotator cuff in the past and have some scar tissue or other problems. I have some trouble with mine and I have lowered the wieght on above the head presses etc. I have also been very careful on how far I bring the bar down on behind the neck press, no lower than my jaw or ear. Bottom line, if you ignor it or try to medicate you will only make the problem worse in the long run. I would suggest medical advice and stay away from wieghts/exercises that cause pain. Consider swimming or something that you can start to build things back up, after you talk to a doc. Another course to consider is maybe increase your water intake, and try chondriton/glucosemine. This will help lube the joints to speak and may help with repair. Also ibuprofen could be utilized for pain. Like the other bros say, consult a physician, rotator cuff problems can be serious.
