On the AS forum, a lot of guys have been talking about the Barry Bonds steroid scandal. I have seen a lot of guys put him down for taking steroids and not being a good role model. I take steroids, and personally, I feel that steroids are good for the game and enhance the speed and power the game brings to you (and yes, we all love to watch those big hits in football and to watch those balls fly out of the park).
The point is, I asked this dude why he should be so worried about BB being a role model? Isn't he going to be a daddy someday with children of his own that will look up to him? What will they think of his steroid use? Maybe he has a brother or sister who looks up to him. What do they think of his steroid use? What about his children's friends or the neighborhood kids? Point is, why as Americans do we blame athletes, pop singers, and other celebrities for not being good role models, when the blame should fall on the parent? Our children learn the virtues, their behaviors, their respect towards others, and everything else that comes along with being a parent, so aren't we to blame rather than an athlete who takes steroids? Why is Jo-Schmo never at fault?
