Robin Williams ... your thoughts

Who gives a fuck about your grandmother

I take hydros for pain

I could go on for hours about depression, all I can say is that it exists and I've battled with it..divorce really took away part of my life. Sure, I met a better person but it was more about my kids than anything. Some people just deal with it better or hide it quite well..anyways, rip Robin, you will be missed..very sad that you could make people feel so good, but then couldn't help yourself..

Woot, what is it that divorce took away from you? Can you tell me what you are missing now that you had before?

why was he so depressed?

He was rich/famous and had been to rehab a couple times?

Fuck off get some real problems

"Money can't buy happiness"

For those that have experienced a true depressive state will understand. Those that haven't, will not.

I had a friend kill himself. He battled terrible depression and headaches for years. He tried to get help. He even told his parents that he couldn't go on any longer and was going to end his own misery but wished he could have been helped instead. He wanted to get better, he cried out for help and in the end he felt there was no hope left and killed himself.

Truly sad case. He was a great guy.

Here are some facts about depression:

  • Although major depression can strike people of any age, the median age at onset is 32.5, according to Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.
  • Depression is more common in women than in men, according to Washington University.
  • Men with depression are more likely than depressed women to abuse alcohol and other substances, according to Jill Goldstein, director of research at the Connors Center for Women's Health and Gender Biology at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. Depressed men may also try to mask their sadness by turning to other outlets, such as watching TV, playing sports and working excessively, or engaging in risky behaviors, Goldstein told Live Science in an interview earlier this year.
  • Men's symptoms of depression may be harder for other people to recognize, and the illness is missed more frequently in men, Goldstein said.
  • Men with depression are more likely than women with the condition to commit suicide, Goldstein said. Men with depression may go longer without being diagnosed or treated, and so men may develop a more devastating mental health problem.
  • Symptoms of depression extend far beyond feeling sad, and may include: loss of interest and pleasure in normal activities, irritability, agitation or restlessness, lower sex drive, decreased concentration, insomnia or excessive sleeping and chronic fatigue and lethargy, according to Mayo Clinic.

Just as I said a couple of months back when a lifelong buddy of mine killed himself, I think it's a selfish act.

I understand having problems, hell everyone has problems, but when you have family and people who love you dearly, it should be a duty to never stop seeking help.

We understand more about mental illness now than ever before, so why wouldn't you do whatever it takes to get yourself some help?

Now his whole family and all of his loved ones have to be put through this while he doesn't.

On a level I agree with you. In fact, total truth, what kept me from doing it once was the thought "I'll break my mother's heart". More recently it was "I can't hurt my husband like that".

My former SIL committed suicide 12 years ago. Her mother found her body. Her husband pretty much gets drunk nightly and rehashes that day, the grief is still there and he keeps asking "why". IMHO if you're going to off yourself intentionally at least have the courtesy to leave some sort of note.

I don't think selfish is the right word, though. You just get so lost you can't see how important you are to those who love you, or you convince yourself they'll really be better off without your bullshit.

And as for not seeking help, you men are great ones for that, especially for something as sissified as admitting you need help with your feelings and emotions :whatever:
