Robert Montgomery Knight!

MattTheSkywalker

Elite Mentor
Platinum
The General has guided Texas Tech to the Sweet 16.

Indiana has not gone to the tournament in a few years. I am sure that the IU faithful sure are happy that they got rid of him. Assholes.

Knight is a piece of shit.

I disagree. I know him personally, and he's...from what I can tell, a stand up guy that the media likes to portray a certain way. Isiah Thomas is among his most ardent defenders, and there are many others. I've heard few that know him describe him negatively.

His coaching credentials are hard to beat; among active coaches, only coach K is even worth comparing, and who was Krzyzewski's mentor?

In a world of tremendous corruption, Knight ran a clean program, and managed to win doing it. Who else has done this? Again, only Coach K comes to mind, and Duke is on a whole different level than every other program over the past 15 years.

Knight's back in the Sweet 16; the win over Gonzaga was a real win over a real team; Gonzaga was a #3 seed with 7 straight NCAA appearances.

All I know is he said this line in his latest tirade: "(IU AD) doesn't know his ass from third base". and for that, I will always love him.

I don't like him. He seems like an asshole, but I love his quote, "When I die, I want them to bury me upside down so the critics can kiss my ass!" :lmao:

Absolutely true. He's a tremendous coach. I don't like the way he goes about it.

P.S. - Isiah Thomas being one of his most ardent defenders holds no water with me. He's several steps beyond being a piece of shit :)

First off all, can you get me an autograph??.....haha

Not only did he run a clean program, he only recruited kids that would work best within his system, which many a times did NOT include the best talent and maintained one of the highest graduate rates in the NCAA.There have been stars that have gone through his system, but that is not essentially how he recruited. He ran things his way, you either simply respected that or you didn't play for him. Miles Brand was the biggest tragedy to ever happen to IU basketball. You bring up a great point that many people forget is that Coach K was his assistant. It is a shame thay they had a little of a falling out.

IU needs to get rid of Mike Davis and bring in Steve Alford.....end of story

BTW, this is your best post ever!

I know Indiana basketball pretty well; I did the prep school thing with a handful of guys who went on to play at IU and a lot of top players from the state of Indiana.

You're right about how Knight would take a guy like Alan Henderson, the #2 recruit in Indiana his senior year, and get more out of him than he would have gotten from Glenn Robinson, who was #1. And then there was 11-time Mr. Basketball Damon Bailey.. LOL

The guy has an explosive temper and has a view of the world that he is always right. He also has done more for the game of college basketball and its players than almost any coach, anywhere.

IU fucked up when they lost him; despite his public actions, he built a program that was the hallmark of team basketball. His players won often, and won with class, and most of them graduated.

He recruited Damon Bailey since the eighth grade. It is a shame he never really lived up to the hype......
