Rice

Hello everyone, I am a newbie out here and had a question on using rice to get my carbs. For about a month now I have been eating one serv. of minute white rice 2-3 times a day, once in the morning, once for lunch with a can of tuna and one more time 30 minutes before I lift. The only thing is I've heard that it is not good to eat "white" rice, some guy was telling me its like eating a candy bar because its highly glycemic. Is this the truth? If so what type of rice is good for carbs, or any other carb product I could mix with the tuna.

Any ideas?

white rice is no doubt higher in the GI (Glycemic Index) compared to other type of rice such as Basmati and Brown Rice. I have actually switch to Basmati and Brown rice because I think they taste better.

eating white rice = eating a candy bar...well, not quite. At least white rice is complex carb, unlike candy bar which mostly contains simple carb. Plus the fact that u got sat. fat in candy bar that's sooo not good for you.

Try Whole Wheat Pasta or whole wheat macaroni and mix it w/ your tuna.

Hope that helps.

Long grain white rice and medium grain brown rice have almost the same glycemic index. I'd stay away from the minute rice though - need to go with the real stuff.

basmati rice is also a great choice (with brown rice)

I bought a 15 lb. bag of Basmati Rice for $12. You can find some really good deals at Indian Markets.

I have been eating the hell out of that rice. It is sooooo much better than minute rice.

Actually Rez... Sweet potato have a lower GI Then White potato...

Weird eh?

as for potatoes, keep the skin (it lowers the GI b/c of it is mainly fiber)
