Rhodesian Ridgeback

After some extensive research this weekend, I think I have decided on a Rhodesian Ridgeback for my next dog. My wife and I live in Chicago, have a small yard, a park nearby, and are expecting a child. We wanted a big dog, good guardian, good with children, little fur(wife has allergies), intelligent. What do you all think? This is the email I received from someone near me selling one.
"I have some older ones. I have 6 pups. 5 males 1female. I just sold the dark male w/black mask. but do have some very nice puppies left. Im asking $300 for them and the at is just pets only! w/out papers, but pedigree on parents."

I have a Ridgeback.......awesome dogs. However, they need more than a small yard. Unless you have the time to walk him 3-4 miles day, I'd pick a more sedate breed. We have 5 acres....and my wife is home with the dogs all day to let them run..........he's still got a ton of energy at the end of the day. Very good watchdog..........BUT they are uber protective of the family. They will do great with the people they know, but are leary of strangers.
