Rhinoplasty (your experience)

fistfullofsteel said:
Ok, I've seen some right after surgery pics and it looks brutal and painful. I am a wimp when it comes to this stuff, but I guess I have to suck it up.

How long did you wait to start going out and get back to work after the surgery? How long were you out of commission? I guess there is no way you can drive yourself home after the surgery. When was life back to normal for you?
Discomfort and return to activities after rhinoplasty depend on the problem to be treated, surgical techniques, skill of your surgeon, after care, how you heal, and other factors. I prefer surgical techniques that minimize swelling and bruising. Less swelling and bruising seems to increase comfort after surgery.

Hope this helps,

I had my nose broken twice as well. I fell off a wall as achild and then as a 16 year old teenager I got kicked in the head in a rugby match. Nose isn't smashed like some rugby players is, but my septum definitely needs straightening as its fairly noticeable in photos. Not an immediate issue, but certainly something that I'll sort out over the next year or so.

Oh, Lord, it was the easiest and most rewarding thing I have ever done for myself! Never felt any pain. I had my septum straightened and my nose made more harmonious on the outside. Never felt any pain. I had black eyes for about 2 weeks though and the breathing was tough in the first month, while my nose was swollen.

Do it, Darling - you will not regret it.

Similar experience here. Best thing I ever did for myself. Very important to find a good surgeon!! I had it done 3 times, becausethe guy who did the first two thought he could get the job done by just doing an external surgery? Basically, he didn't flip my nose open..:)
The third did the full job, corrected the first ones mistakes (rondules (sp?), etc.), and I have been very pleased since. No pain whatsoever. Some bleeding for a couple of weeks, which was expected, but within a few weeks I had no prob going out.
I think he said that the bulk of the noticeable effect takes about 3 months.

Who was your surgeon? I am also looking for a revision...My nose doesn't look that bad, but there is a bump (cartilage that shifted) on the side of my tip.........it's important that you choose an ENT/plastic surgeon because they deal with face surgeries all the time...
PM me, please.....

I am guessing some of you had rhinoplasty. What is your experience? I need a good surgeon in the NYC area. Do you know of any? Anybody heard of this guy? http://www.drphilipmiller.com/Procedures/Procedures.asp

I have problems breathing through my nose and I wouldn't mind having a better nose too, because I broke it a couple of times.

I had a rhinoplasty 5 years ago when I was 18 but I am not satisfied with the shape of my nose and I will probably get a correction in the years to come. The surgeon said I would be able to breath easily but I can't.

The tip of my nose is way to high.

My surgeon is one of the best in my city but life is life and result are sometimes unexpected.

The lesson is...everyone is different and you may need a correction.

Good luck.

I had it when I had just turned 17 on the NHS. I had broken my nose quite alot when I was younger from playing sports and my septum was deviated and cartialge was starting to grow on the bridge. Pain was ok you know apart from, I found, having those bloody plug things taken out day after surgery - Jezz it felt as if they were pulling my brain out of my nose.

Very happy with the results and does not even look like a surgeon has touched it

I paid for my own rhinoplasty when I was in highschool at the age of 17. I hated my nose and wanted it smaller, it wasn't humped realy, it had a slight raise to it on the top but not a hump or slope, It was however kind of wide for my face and they cut out pieces of nostril back where it attaches to the face, I can't pick my nose anymore unless i use my pinky and I definately can't dig! I noticed that I did lose a little breathability through the nose but I have learned to deal with it and its fine,

Post surgery wasn't painfull at all, JUST VERY UNCOMFORTABLE!!! THe nose is packed with vasaline/gause and you cna't breath at all through it. I woke up with sleep apnea for a week because i would shut my mouth and wake up from no air, very uncomfortable and gross tasting old vasaline drippingdown your throat, I had two surgeries and there is only a tiny imprefection in the cartiflage now that i could have fixed but haven't had the money for it, plus it loks good fm both sides and you cna only see a slight unevenness if looking from the front up very close or underneath, The nose looks great now, It fits my face awesome and no one has ever asked me if I had surgery, it just looks like ME, Some people need it and deserve it. I do modeling now and I know I wouldnt if I didn't have the nose job, god bless rhinoplasty. :)

My younger sister actually had rhino yesterday due to pretty much the problems you are having yourself. They gave her general anesthetics which I wasn't too happy about, but oh well. She was a wreck yesterday due to the anethesia but today she's alot more responsive and is just chillin with her head leaned back and what not. She said she's not having too much pain but went ahead and popped a pain killer this evening just in case it got worse over night. So far so good. The one thing that bugged me was how out of it she was all yesterday due to the anethesia. She had to get up to use the restroom, and I guess she got up too quickly as she got very dizzy and collapsed (luckily my other sister and I were there to catch her and lay her down). Just take the time to find the right doctor and don't rush anything. Good luck!!
