Retainers

My braces were taken off over 6 years ago , but i had to get a retainer on my bottom teeth.

Do I need this thing forever or do I need to go to the ortho. and have it removed ?

That's something you and your orthodontist need to discuss.
:FRlol: True.

Even if he says you can stop wearing your retainers after awhile, you should still try to wear as much as you can (just sleep in it several times a week), because teeth will naturally move back into their old position. It'll happen really slowly, but in 20 years do you really want to wear braces again? Nothing spoils a good appearance like bad teeth.

I remember in high school seeing this douche taking it out before eating lunch like every day. It was gross, all dripping saliva and crap.

yes, it's permanent but you can't see it.

I got the same thing.. lower teeth, on the inside of the teeth. I've had it in since like 95.. I asked my ortho about it a year or so ago and he said it's made to last for quite a while, but you can have it removed anytime. the only thing is that when it's gone, your teeth can shift again, inscreasing the likelyhood that you'll need braces again in 20 or so years.

We have a lot in common: same name, retainers....

you queer ?

do you really think you'll care if your teeth are perfect when you're 40? You're going to be so busy driving little suzy to soccer practice and paying bills and all that great stuff to give 2 shits what your teeth look like
thats my guess anyhow

That's why they put them on the inside of your teeth, so you will continue to wear it for years after. When you are 40 years old it will bother you when your teeth are crooked, knowing the torture you went threw as a kid to have your teeth straightened...and you removed the retainer letting them shift back out of alignment. It can do damage if your bite was corrected with your orthodontic Tx. You could end up with TMJ problems as well as having summer teeth again...sum r here...sum r there!!! I would just leave it in place especially since you can't see it. Does it bother you? I wouldn't think it would since you've had it for so many years...

40 is younger than you think, and you won't want crooked teeth then, especially if you're going to have a mid-life crisis and want to date younger chicks. Besides, crooked teeth are harder to keep clean, so you'll get more cavities and have bad breath.

my son is 5 and he had a retainer/space maintainer put on his bottom teeth as well. but this is to keep the spaces open for when the adult teeth grow in.
