Let's say you've been working out 4 days a week for 6,8 or 10 weeks at medium/high intensity.

How much (in days) rest (or cardio only) do you need before starting a new cycle?

I think it depends on your own body and its recovery abilities. I would say rest for about a week and see how you feel then and adjust accordingly

Research seems to suggest that your muscles take 1-2 weeks before they are fully recovered after a bodybuilding workout (without roids). In reality, I found you may want to add a few more days than that for your tendons, ligaments etc.

My tendons definitaly need some rest

I've just been doing some cycling but I'm not sure it's that good for the knees

1-2 week layoff?????/ Im not sure how necessary that is.....I keep it guessing......every 4th week I'll switch everything up and focus more on the pump in the 10-15 rep range and away from the 6-8....

Body def. needs a break from heavy training, but not sure if that much rest is ideal.

Totally depends on training style. Look up Madcows 5x5 and check out the deloading phase.
