Rest between exercises?

Well I have been training in an effort to lose fat and have heard many conflicting ideas on how I should conduct my workout. Personally, I have been doing sets between 5-10 reps (heavy) and allowing myself plenty of time to rest between sets. Other have suggested that I dont rest much between sets. I tried doing this but I found that if I didnt rest enough, I wasnt able to lift as much weight. Sometimes what I would do for ten on the first set, I could only do for 5 on the second.

Personally I dont consider my workout a time to lose fat, I leave that to my diet and cardio. I make sure that I lift as heavy and as intense as I can. But lately all these suggestions of speeding it up got me confused...

Any suggestions?

if you doing speed work, rest is minimal, but when your doing heavy work, you need to take as much rest as you need. tb
