Religious Folks

Latimer

New member
Simple question I was always curious about.

Have any of you that have been raised in a religious household, grown up and followed a different religion than the one you were born into?

Or have any of you parents let your children choose their own religion?

Yo.. Catholic family Outcast here !!!!!

Raised as a Italian / Irish Catholic with all the trappings like CCD classes and all the required things such as Baptism, Communion, Confirmation, Confession etc...

As soon as I left home I figured out I thought it was not for me and after researching and trying different other christian faiths have stuck with Protestant Presbyterian...

My sisters have raised their kids as Catholic as tradition dictates so therefore I am an outcast and have hurt our parents...

My Mom has come to accept my beliefs and now says " We all believe in the same GOD anyway"...

I grew up a Baptist, and I want to get as far away from that as I can. I'm a Christian, but I'm studying Buddhist philosophy right now. I told my parents about it this weekend, and they seemed interested more than disappointed or negative.

I was raised a Babtist, I practice basic bhuddist teachings and I could really be called more of a gnostic than anything at this point. :)

my mom was catholic.. but not really devoted or anything.. my biological father was atheist.. i think.. actually i just know he didn't go to church..

my mom enrolled me in ccd.. after the second class.. i told my mom.. "this is crap.. it's all nonsense... i'm not going anymore".. and she said ok...

i don't have kids yet.. but when i do.. if i do.. i won't raise them with any particular religion.. i will teach them the basics and more of each particular religion.. if they want to learn.. and i'll let them do what they want.. and no.. i will not bad mouth any particular religion when i teach them.. i will teach them in such a way that i express completely neutrality in my feelings/thoughts on each religion..

peace

STOP POSTING RELIGOUS BULLSHIT.

If you have a question, please die and ask your "god"

No one on here knows any more or less than you.

it is all just rehashed fairy tale bullshit.

Am I the only fucker on here that gets sick of people trying to answer eternal questions on a god damn fitness board?

People have been asking this shit for thousands of years and you think you can log onto a fucking message board and get answers?

Gimme a fucking break.

Very interesting so far.

I assumed most people would've ended up an atheist and give up on religion totally.

What made you choose one over the other? Was it more of a total package deal, or was there one specific stance/belief that you agreed strongly with? Or vise-versa for you choosing to leave your original religion.

Do any of you follow your own god/higher power or pray to an existing god under your own set of rules?

 buddhist AND agnostic? How is that possible?

Here's the cliff notes version on me:

I was raised Catholic, but never had a relationship with God, hated going to church EVERY frigging Sunday..got nothing from it.

I married a very vocal atheist who convinced me though belittling and wearing me down over time that there was no God and religion was a ridiculous notion.

Fast forward 6 years.......God strategically placed people in my life to help me realize that I NEEDED a relationship with God...

I go to a non-denominational Christian church every Sunday with my son and LOVE it. I have a VERY STRONG faith in God....

Because of some REALLY difficult experiences my husband came to develop a strong faith in God as well (miracles DO happen :) )

We teach our son about God and Jesus and love...not dogma of any particular religion. His capacity to grasp the concept of God is MIND-BLOWING.....to see his reveling in God's love without the without the self-consciousness adults have is beyond words. It simply cannot be overstated......

:)

P.S. Latimer - my husbands screen name (on other boards) is Dexter Manley :D
