Regarding High Reps..

I'm basically looking to put on some bulk weight and am wondering if high reps will hinder gains. I have been finding myself dying on certain reps and think it could be because of weaker muscle 2 fibers. I have been doing low reps for awhile. I was thinking of doing lower reps twice in a row and then alternating with a high rep workout...

so each time I'd do, say chest, I'd do high reps every 3rd time.

Will this hinder my gains as far as gaining bulk goes? Will it help me cut down a bit?

On Gear the high reps won't hurt you that much.......but coming off they will absolutely rape your muscle. If you want mass, why are you doing high reps anyway? You can superset I suppose......but over the longterm you'd be better served by staying high weight moderate reps 4-6 rep range.

High reps in order to better work those muscle 2 fibers. I think that's the reason why I suddenly lag out during a rep when I seem to be going smoothly. I was going to do it every 3 times just to give a little shock to my muscles.

Drop set are when you do say three sets of any excerise and you increase the weights with each set and you take no rest in between. For example

Bicept curls
1) 8 reps at 35 lbs
2) 8 reps at 40 lbs
3) 8 reps at 45 lbs
This wouuld be one set.

actually, you DECREASE the weight each time. You "drop" down to a lighter weight to keep the set going.
 
yea arnold used to do dropsets on his chest and biceps all the time (he did up to 80 pushups afterwards) so highreps can't be that bad. Even tough most people like 4-6 reps (so do i)

find out what works best for you, both do work well. Some friends i have gain better in strength when increasing the ammount of rep, and some do the opposite!
 
I find that 8-10 reps works best for me. I find that with 4-6 its very hard to get intense enough. I do drop sets also.

Dropsets are horrible for me.......all they do is give me volume work at a lower weight......basically burning me out.....they don't do anything for strength...

My work starts at 60-70% of max.......I stay in that area......dropping down is pointless.

Stay in the 8-12 rep range. Moderate-high volume, Moderate intensity will yield the best gains with juice.

High intensity, low reps is a great way to injure yourself while on.

I think the goal of dropsets is just to tear the muscle as fast as possible...

exactly. The example given is simply "pyramiding" weights.

From my experience a drop set means a decrease in weight but an increase in reps to keep up intensity.

ex. DB presses-70lbs/8 reps-65lbs/10 reps-60lbs/12 reps
 
for me, anything in the 5-10 rep range builds good size

Thats exactly where I've been for the last couple months. Before that I was in the 8-12. I think every few months its good to change it up.
