Recovery workouts....

I hear that your workout should change during recovery. How often, how long, and how intense should your workouts be when trying to recover your natural test as to aid and not further shut down ?
 
i go intense but only for 30mins. i do about 20 sets when bulking. 8 sets pct. 30 sets for cutting.
 
i bring the volume down about 10%. try to dig in a keep my strength up and keep the reps @ 10-15. absolutely NO traumatic sets though(eg. drop sets, super sets, notin) i keep the rest periods about 2.5 min and still train to momentary muscular failure

12-15 sets for large bodyparts
8-10 for small
