Recovered from surgery.. quad wasted.

Surgery for knee 4 mos ago. 2nd surgery for scar tissue problems. Same the Michael Irvin had.. and returned to career from. Although, I'm sure he had some good stuff. I'll never regain full flexion.. mostly 135 to 140 degrees. Enough to walk, maybe some day run again. So that the knee does not feel junky all the time I need to rebuild the muscle in the wasted quad. This will stabalize the joint. Problem is the joint swells from activity. This is because of lack of muscles and instability. So, I need over the hump to really start rebuilding my body.

Its been a year and I want to start getting solid muscle back across the board. I'm trim.. my buddy wants me to keep working out full body for 4 weeks minimum before get any gear.

That being the case.. my leg is still going to not be anywhere near health of rest of body.

Anyone have a recommended regimen and gear to use? I really need the extra help.

whats your dayjob ?
sitting down ?
i do leg presses, with very little weight on .. increasing 5-10kg's for every fullbody workout .. train eod, thats "3.5" sessions a week..
and by very litte i mean very little, maybe only the sled it self... and forget about gear for now imo.
you could look into hgh perhaps ?

hey man are you rehabing that leg thru PT? very important to let the PT decide the regimen for that leg. but simple physiology 101 train the rest of your body like a mad man, on what ever routine your buddy is doing. leave that leg out at 1st til you get clearance. then incorporate that leg too. there is a theory that insists that muscle transfer will occur. meaning the bum leg will try and catch up to the good one once you start it on a routine

rehab that shit starting today!!!!

wait on gear for at least 6 mths of the leg being somewhat useful!!!!!!!

I've gone through rehab. They're telling me to hit the gym and focus on growing muscle. That there is nothing else they can do for me. That my leg is fine.. it's the muscle.

Starting back to work next week. A desk job. I've been out for many months. I can walk fine and everything... it's just weak as hell.

I've started working everything else out like crazy.

you may want to continue with lower weight higher rep sets and do an extra set with the injured leg

it is going to take time, I wish you best of luck you will get there, you sound motivated

It was supposed to be simple ACL reconstruction. That went wrong. Damage to meniscus and MCL. The surgery resulted in a blood clot, staff infection, and everything else. I won the 2% lottery of bad luck. The quality of rehab sucked so bad it wasn't even funny. They explained the set backs by telling me.. it's in your head. I laughed... I was like you know, I've gained 30 pounds of muscle over 6 months of hard working out before. I know pain and hard work. After 12 months I went to top surgeon for sports injuries. I was diagnosed with a scar tissue condition called arthrofibrosis. I was told I had a 1/3 chance of the surgery working.. that I would never be the same. Walking crippled with a peg leg for the better part of a year to where I'm at is incredible. Put me out of work for 1 year, lost the gf ( obviously a good thing, damn she was a hottie), and pretty much everything. So... back on my feet, returning to work, working out, and chasing ass.

But, I have 2 goals... 1) regain quad 2) get body to an amatuer body building level.

And... I'm willing to do what it takes.

imo test deca stay hydrated if anything test, very light weight high reps I agree with the sled with little or no weight at first. and get a good isometric stretching massage therapist to work that ind muscle and work out the scar tissue that may be there.

that was partly why i was asking him about his dayjob .. i wouldnt wanna do a substance that'd make him put on 10kg's of water weight ..

I had a significant foot injusry a couple years back, non-weight bearing (on crutches) for 7 months....talk about loosing leg muscle....anyway, it comes back, and IMO if the rest of you is in shape your lagging part does catch up relatively quickly. It just takes time bro, but you will get there if you put in the work (and it sounds like you will). I would hold off on the AAS until you have made significant gains. I was leary of damaging the ligaments and other connective tissue which will also be weak from the injury/lack of use, but will not respond as quickly to the AAS as the muscle and therefore leave you vulnerable to more injury.

good luck

I've had four surgeries... two major reconstructives.... had the same swelling and even months after surgery I'd randomly get serious swelling in the knee joint... but if you're that far out of surgery and the PT has cleared you then go as hard as possible without pain in the knee joint!! personally I found the leg press machine to work wonders!! I hit it evey 5 days sometimes six... maxing out everytime... but working about 14 sets or so.... sometimes more sometimes less... but always till my legs were dead.... back off if it is painful in the joint.... it's a fine line between pushing it too hard and not pushing it hard enough!! start light and try to work up a little each workout or every two workouts!! then make sure your diet is ok.... you may even want more rest than only five days but that's the schedule I tried to keep sometimes a day or two more... cause after you kill your legs like that it's a painlful thing (muscle pain is ok) and it took me at least 5 days before I could hit my maxes again!! and you may want to go just below yyou max sometimes... this is a time when myst and will become an expert at listening to your body!!! and that my friend is the key!! if your body tells you it's too much on your knee... back it off... if you feel like you can go harder... then by all means!! but I rec you stay off the juice for a few more months and give your tendons and ligaments time to get used to the weight you'll be shoving around... and if you decide not to wait... then be very disciplined in how hard you push it as to not over do it too soon... cause IMHO it would be too much and you'll be right back where you were before surgery if not worse!! best of luck to you... keep yourhead up and your training on and be patient!! I know it's hard... trust me I know!! :)
