Recording concerts

Anyone out there know a good method of recording a concert? I'm going to a show in May, and I'd like to get a decent recording of it.

minidisc would be your best bet if you are just a consumer. inexpensive, and the quality is great. although I am biased against minidisc from the start, many live performances/bootlegs of mixes throughout the internet are recorded from minidisc.

when minidisc first came out, I only saw the auto aspect of it. I never thought of it being a recording medium, for saw y live performances, but as I started going to shows, parties, I have seen the minidisc come through for its ease of use, portability, and popularity. from this, I have gained little respect for it, but still would not prefer to use it myself. I dont record live performances, so it wouldn't be on my persons.

Thanks for the responses, guys!

How much are these things? Any idea if they're available for rent?

DAT is around 400$. Best quality sound available on the market along with Reel-tapes. 48 khz, instead of 44 (CD) and 36 for Minidisc. Plus you can record up to 8 hours I think in long-play mode (of course in 36 Khz quality).

$400, huh? That's actually less than I figured they'd be.

Thanks manny.

Fuck DAT's for stealth recording; if you peak with a DAT tape you're fucked. Too much fucking around with for field recording. In the studio it's another story.

I'm a musician and do allot of recordings stealth and studio of a variety of genres. When I'm at a concert I record with a minidisc or a digital recorder using stealth mics from http://soundprofessionals.com. This webpage has tons of great stuff on it.

Believe me when I say you won't hear any difference between 44.1 khz and 48 khz especially when you're at a live concert with people yelling and screaming around you. Becides when you record at 48 you'll have to change it to 44.1 to burn it, and unless you have a great sound editing software it'll make a mess out of your recording.
