Really intelligent women

Met a little prodigy girl today. 18 yr old and publicizing filosofical novels, a masters degree in the pocket and scarily well-read. Tried to tell her something interesting she didn´t know for some hours and failed.

I feel very fascinated and challenged.

She'll eventually get Alzheimers and forget everything she ever thought she knew, that includes your name and the fact that she has to go to the bathroom to piss.

I dated a Russian chick in HS who was fluent, but native-speaker fluent in 5 languages and did nothing really but read and study and spend some time with me dancing once or twice a week. She had eating disorders and was traumatised though. Broke up with her in a fight. I miss her sometimes. Meeting this girl today reminded me strongly of her. This girl was Italian though. She even knew mussolini´s propaganda songs by heart...

I'm not that smart, nor do I want to be. IMO there is more in life than learning abunch of useless information that will not benefit you unless you plan on becoming a professor or sort.

Now studying to become a doctor..etc imo is different.

But to know mussolini's propaganda song by heart...... shit, that must be a hell of a boring life she leads.

I'll just hang out over there in the room with the stupid people ;)

Thing is such people don´t know something by heart because they studied it. Just because they happened to listen to it once and found it interesting and it just sticks.

I don´t think information that you might never apply is therefor useless. I like understanding things. I´m curious. Even if it doesn´t lend itself to application.

Eh, at least you guys got Roger Penrose over there.

yeah typo so sue me. I like Feynman btw I listened to a lot of his lectures on mp3. I also have the BBC interview, its about an hour long and he talks about his life and physics. He´s an interesting guy but so limited... so specific. Scary. His passion is inspiring though. He makes me want to understand stuff.

Oh. I thought maybe you guys spelled it that way. Other languages use the f.

Yeah, Feynman redily admits to being limited, but he's surprisingly diverse, from drummer to drawing newd models to designing the atomic bomb (eh, him and Bethe, lol). I want to buy his drawing book his daugher Michelle released a few years ago, but it runs like $80. Ouch.

His "Surely You're Joking..." book is completely available online for free, if you haven't read that yet.

Has the fact that he likes to speak and is a good teacher caused him to be an overestimated scientist? Was his work really that big? I´m not really enough into physics to tell the difference

A pretty smart friend of mine dated a very, very dumb girl for 2 years. She´s very sweet and pretty and kind though. But damn. She´s like a cat. cute affection and pretty but no real soul or relation there.

Overestimated? Hey, I may have my faults like everyone else, but that's pretty harsh there! But seriously, it would depend who you ask. In my field of study I'm pretty well known, of course, but outside of that? Who knows. The NASA pannel I sat on and showed them the cause of the Challenger shuttle explosion using only a rubber o-ring and cup of ice water was pretty popular with the media, but I think that was just because of the finesse with which I publicly made a fool of NASA. Oh yeah, the whole atom bomb thing -- that was all me and Oppenheimer. I usually omit the whole quantum chromodynamics thing. Bores people to death, lemme tell you.

I'd say take a look in here for a pretty good summery of some stuff I've done.

A lot of that biography was taken from the interview I have

I wouldn't mind hearing that interview, but I haven't seen it sold anywhere around here. His lectures on physics tapes are pretty good, but they haven't all been re-released onto CD format... and with almost thirty sets of them, its over $500. Outta my range, lol.

Wow. Just like in males, the most educated, intelligent, book-smart, skilled people .. have the most boringest of personalities. I'm surprised she's fascinating you.

usually the best women are merely women who have something PRODUCTIVE going on in theri lives. Doesn't necessarily mean she needs to be a rocket scientist to be the best mate.

I´d say someone who is dating, studying medicine, is on the track and field team and has a book being published is being pretty productive. I for one would not know where to fit in 10 hours of cartoon network a day in that life.
she was also very well dressed. i´d totally hit it

Dude, the title of this thread is an oxymoron. No matter how intelligent, she's still a woman those two things just fight each other!

ooo you sound like youve read some nikos kazantzakis...this guy thought that only second rate people write books, since all the first rate people are too busy living their lives

...which is ironic, since he was a writer ;)

personally i get along better with the bozos who like to drink and wench, than the 'intellectuals' who try to prove how smart they are...to impress wenches ;)

I also recommend "What do you care what other people think" , and of course, the Feynman Lectures. Interestingly Feynman was the one who identified & demonstrated to frozen O-ring issue that resulted in the shuttle explosion in 1986. And this, coincidentally, was instrumental in my choice to change my career path from astrophysics (i.e. lack of opportunity to work in the field w/ all NASA work under scrutiny... as it should've been anyway ... and research money in the field.) He is probably the top person in history that I wish I could've met. I did meet Carl Sagan & Dr. Fred Whipple (proposed dirty snowball theory of comets in 1950) in 1987 at a terrestrial sciences convention in Austin, TX, but Feynman would've topped even Sagan.

How romantic

My girlfriend before last wasn't the brightest specimen but she was the sweetest person I had ever met, her humility and compassion were her selling points for me. However she failed to use any logic in her thougth process, everything stemmed from an emotion and me being very anylitical didn't mesh too well together in the long run.

My ex-girlfriend was completly on the other end of the spectrum, the daughter of a very prominent surgeon, she was an attorney having finished first in her class. Very attractive, everyone would always ask her if she was a super model every where we went, striking features. I broke up with her after only a few months to the dismay of my parents. I found her to be quite mean and abrasive. Perhaps the contrast of the two girlfriends back to back made the difference more pungent. It was like going from a teddy bear to a stappler.

So I came to the realization that there has to be a fine balance between the two. I have also come to the conclusion that finding this will be no easy feat, but settling shouldn't be an option.

you pussed out. this is like when my sister rejected a pretty big heir who was charming to boot, just because he turned out to be a demon with a lifelong contract with Satan. I found that aspect of him to be amusing and was looking forward to taking him up in the family but hey...

You repulse me a bit. It sounds almost like you believe in this thing called "love".

It is an unfortunate affliction I will admit, but it seems to be unavoidable as well.

I don't know if I'd say that I pussed out, the girl was mean. She was also skinny as a rail and the sexual attraction wasn't completly there, any time we were intimate I would fear getting cut from a protruding bone.

I am a hopeless romantic, can't fault a guy for that; or can you?

I guess not.

my father told me when drunk that he regrets not marrying a woman who brings in more money though. then again he is evil. Like a 65 yr old Stewie-evil

lol, perhaps this is where you acquired your cynicism. My parents have been married for thirty years and they still act like newlyweds. I can't remember a single time growing up or present day having ever heard them fight. My optimism is simply a product of my envirnment.

I will hold out for the best of both worlds, there may be a prospect in my scope as we speak but only time will tell.

My parents never really fight. they just act all sarcastic and cynical a lot.

I have noticed that intelligent men have more trouble with women then the rest of society, I'll refer to it as "The Genius Failure Paradox". It's the tendency for UNUSUALLY intelligent men to have very LOW levels of success with women and dating. Now I'm not quite sure where I fit in here but I would put myself a bit above average, now how far I don't know. I do know the pattern that I've recognized.

You see intelligent people are usually lways RIGHT. And when you're RIGHT more often than others, you can get ahead in many situations. But unfortunately, this smart mind of yours can actually be WORSE than useless when it comes to a key area of life: women and dating

You´re probably right. High intelligence makes people less social, since they don´t connect as much since most people dont get them.

It blows my mind how many smart guys I meet that just don't get it when it comes to basic social skills.

It's as if they have logically reasoned that social skills are for lower beings who need to play games... and not worth the time it would take to learn them.

In fact, I believe that there are a lot of smart guys running around this planet who don't even have "social skills" and "be a cool guy that people like" in their "MENTAL MODEL" of what it could possibly take to be successful with women and dating.

Social skills are just that... SKILLS.

They're not social information.

They're not social theories.

They're social skills.

And you don't get them by thinking about them. You get them by getting them. Excellent social skills are the foundation for good communication with other humans... and if you don't have good social skills, you dramatically lower your chances for success with women.
