Real food vs Supplements when on

We should all know that supplements cannot replace food and real meals count more than protein powders and so on but I was just curious with the technology nowadays, and isolate wheys and superbiological availability nitros oxide wheys and all that stuff, how much of your focus is put on real food vs supplements such as pure whey powders, weight gainers, meal replacements,
protein bars and so on.

When on cycle - especially one where the aim is to reduce body fat, it becomes more time consuming to prepare meals and ensure correct calories and nutrients are consumed.

An example:

If someone was to do nothing but drink 3500 calories a day in the form of mrps', whey protein powders, weight gainers and so on, how much different would it be than to consume the same in food?

I am imagining it will take a lot more calories to convert the whole food in to a manner that the body can absorb, how much is wasted?

How many protein drinks do you guys have when on cycle, and how many main meals do you all eat a day?

I am between 2-3 main meals at the moment and 3 protein shakes along with one carb shake post workout.

Real food > Supplements

That being said... I aim to consume 2.5-3.0 grams per pound of BW in protein a day. Doing this is no easy feat. Eating 5-6 whole food meals a day and then two shake based meals is the only way for me to achieve this. One of my daily shakes is a 75g whey/casein/egg white blend with two tablespoons of olive oil. This is my busy meal at work. The other shake I have daily is 25g whey iso, 50g Micellar Casein and psyllium husk. This is my before bed shake. So that makes 150g of liquid protein going toward my 600+ gram daily goal.

You are correct that the thermic effect of solid (meat) protein does cause the body to burn more calories for digestion versus consuming liquid protein (shakes). I would also think that the nutrient and amino acid profiles of most meat can not be touched by even the leading brand of protein powders.

I am with you Southernlord but my question is how big of a difference will this have?

Can we even compare?

I mean if I eat my normal 3 meals a day and have a piece or two of fruits along with a protein shake twice a day and a MRP/Quality Weight gainer post workout, is this so bad or would it be better for 5 meals (whole) and then 2 liquid meals?

I have 4 whey shakes a day, 2 with oats and flax and natty PB, one before bed with Egg whites. One PWO with WM. I consume 4 solid meals as well.

This does have the advantage of making it much easier to be accurate on cals and balance macro's.

I shoot for 3500 cals

PS southers,

You ever tried replacing the Psylium husk and olive oil with flax powder? I love the stuff now, Onebreath recommended it to me. Great lipid and fibre source. I have 20g morning and night
