Rash on Chest

Spud

New member
For about the past 3 months now Ive had this rash on my chest. Around my outer pec up to the nipple on both sides. Its red, scaly and itches at times. I have sensetive skin so this could be dry skin, but its pretty damn gross lookin. I apply lotion liberally which seems to help a little, but it still remains. Ive noticed after a night of drinking it gets worse, Im thinking because of dehydration. Im one with the "puffy nips" problem, does this have anything to do with it? BTW, im not on any gear, and only use whey for supps.

It sounds like Psoriasis. The strange thing though is the location. This isn't a common place to have psoriasis, but it is possible. Does anyone in your family, Dad, etc, have this disease?

Psoriasis - is a common chronic, inflammatory skin disease characterized by scaly patches. It starts out as a red rash and gets worse over time. Drinking alcohol aggravates the disease and makes the psoriasis worse.

No past of this problem to my knowledge. I havent had this my whole life, just started about a year or two ago, mostly during the winter months. I find that keeping lotion on it keeps it at bay, but is there anything else I can use to cure or control the problem better? Also my chest is the only location where I suffer from this.

Psoriasis is a condition that usually happens in puberty, but it can happen later. People aren't born with it and children very rarely have it. It sounds like you have it, b/c psoriasis always gets worse in the colder seasons like winter. I'd see a dermatologist to check it out. There are lot's of ointments that you can use to treat this condition. OTC stuff is also available for psoriasis.

NN has some good info there, bud. I would add EFA (Essential Fatty Acids) to my diet. I'd had dry/peeling/scaly/itchy hands/fingers for years and this is the first year I've kept it at bay. I've added a multi-vitamin (just one a day), EFAs, and CLA to this year's regimen. Lots of research points toward EFAs being very good for your skin and helping with all kinds of skin problems.

bebaumax, you're right on the money here! EFA are excellent for skin related problems. I take EFA's every day and it keeps my mild form of psoriasis at bay. I also take a quality multi-vitamin plus many other important nutrient supplements.

spud....
see your derm. efa's are great, also applying an oil-based moisturizer as often as possible, especially after showering. my derm suggests anything that can boost your immune system. my step-mom uses a product called juice plus as a cancer survivor but i do not have personal experience with that yet. the best way to take care of anything is natural sunlight but that could be tough now depending on where you live. i also use zma and a multi-vitamin since zinc is instrumental in the reduction of psoriasis. stress is also a big factor along with the use of alcohol. hope this helps.

anyone know if AS can aggravate this condition? im getting ready for my first cycle in two weeks....

Lots of good info here, Spud! It looks like adding a few things to your regular supplement regimen could probably fix this right up. If it doesn't, then definitely see your dermatologist, as fit recommended.

Thanks guys for the insights and suggestions. I am currently taking Flax oil(8g) a day. I stopped using my ZMA, but Ill start it up again. Im going to try to keep myself hydrated, apply lotion, take my Flax and ZMA along with my multi, and hope for the best. If my symptoms dont subside after a few weeks, than I will go see the doc. Thanks again.

This is kinda odd, but I know a few people that have very mild cases of psoriasis and tanning seems to help a lot. I have a very mild case on my right shoulder and I go to the tanning beds at least 3 times a week and I never have any problems. I've also found hat it helps quite a bit with acne. I would count on that as a permanant fix because of today's risks from UV exposure. Just thought I'd give you my 411.
