Rap Sucks donkey balls!!!

Glad to hear, most normal people like music where people actually play fucking instruments, and write music. Rap is not music, it is generated noise, much like calling a piece of machinery
music.

who wants to be normal? anyways your comment is pretty damn ignorant lol... if rap is generated noise than anyone can do it right? why don't YOU bust out some beats. for further schooling *respose to another ignorant music listener*:

Im speaking not only in the defence of rap music but all forms of electronic music, which are created in similar fashions.

It does. How can I put this. . .

In metal/alternative, whatever, they use the same instruments (drums, bass guitar, electric guitar etc.) in most if not all the songs.

What keeps it from sounding the same?

Obviously by using different chords, different sized snare drum, different lyrics.

To be a rap star you get a beat machine, hit a few buttons and there you have your "music".
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The instruments of a "rap star" are a sampler, maybe a synth and a sequencer. A lot of ppl disagree with these being instruments because it's "New". . . and a lot of ppl are scared of change in the sense that what was once "the norm" isn't.

The sampler is where you create all your sounds. . . and its MUCH MORE than just SAMPLING something and I don't really feel like describing in intricate detail all of the techniques of what goes on.

You are probably thinking where's the SKILL involved. . .

It's all about having an ear for music and what sounds good (your audience is VERY critical), and being able to be innovative with the equipment you have, mastering skills etc.

Then you think of words that rhyme (just like my fitfth grader can do)and there you have rap music.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Buddy no one's gonna listen to:

My mom gave me a Del Monte fruit pack
My favourite colour's black
I throw gum in girl's hair
Cus I just don't care
Riding on my scooter
While I pick a booger

. . .type of rhyme

How many rap artist can actually PLAY music rather than have some machine do it??
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What IS this magical machine that you speak of that DOES beats for mc's?

quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The fact that they have some machine make their music makes it even stranger why they have all the same beat.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

*See above*

You may hate rock n roll but my fifth grader can't play metal guitar...she COULD hit buttons on a machine then think of words that rhyme tho.

Guy, why do you think I hate rock n roll for?
Is it cus Im defending rap music?
If u check earlier in this thread you'll probably take that back.

I don't pigeon-hole myself into one specific genre; there's just too much GOOD MUSIC out there.

If what you say is true, why can't you go out and make a rap beat by pressing buttons and sell it to an un-suspecting emcee?

also. . . if it were that easy why am I not a "star"? Am I not pressing the buttons hard enough? What are some strength exercises for my Dorsal Interossei and Palmar Interossei?

Once again, a retard decides to open his mouth...
I know there are rap producers out there that have more talent in one testicle than you do in your entire body. Dr. Dre probably has more production and musical talent that most people in ANY genre of music. There are many rap songs that feature instruments. I guess your motto is "Ignorance is bliss" because you are one ignorant muthafucka.

Here are some songs with good instruments involved:
"Reunited" - Wu-Tang Clan (not only a classic Wu-banga, but actually features a violin solo that is very badass)
"Lil Ghetto Boy" - Dr. Dre (flute solo)

I don't hate hip-hop but I also do not consider it "music", in the traditonal sense. Music is about MELODY, which rhythmic speaking doesn't contain. I like the mixture of R&B flavorings with rap though.

This is only my opinion. No more, no less. :)

Hey Bro, as much as you hate Rap/Hip-hop you can't say it's not music. It has rhythm, structure, phrasing, etc.. It has all the same components that a piece by Chopin or Mahler would have. I personally think Rap is shit, but I'm not saying the people who perform it aren't talented.

btw, nice to see another Winnipeger here... :)

It IS music, but it's far from being as talented & well written as
say Kraftwerk, who were basically music "programmers" also. Those who can play, those who can't "rap" about it LOL

Beefybull, I'm sorry you are tone deaf, it's not my fault.

Let me guess, it's not Doctor J or whoever the fuck who is playing
that flute right? Some actual musician he payed $$$ to add some
music to his "song".

You can argue till you are blue in the face, I'll just agree to disagree, Rap has it's subculture of morons it sells records to.
Some tone deaf "Dr" dude from the streets will put it out there
for the idiot to buy, and make his money. Nothing about music
though. My case closed, now proceed to call me an asshole who
knows nothing about music, and end the thread ;)

rapping is a whole different kind of melody that involves the mc and the beats/dj in unison imo. this is what seperates good hip-hop from bad (among other things)

it's alright to not like it as everyone's different, but for what rapping lacks in meldoy makes up for in clever rhymes.

wot u think is music and others will of course be different, depending on your upbringing, environment etc.

it all boils down to if the music sparks something emotional in you whether positive/negative, that's what music is to me.

It's Dr. Dre.
Try lisetening to a really good freestyle battle, it's some of the cleverest words ever spoken.
As for live, listen to The Roots or The Black-Eyed Peas. Both are live bands. A lot of artist are using bands, now, just cause it sounds phatter. I saw Snoop Dogg perform with a band.
There are a couple of elements in hip hop that have disappeared from the music: the DJ and dancing. DJs used to be the focal point of the groups, what with the mixing and scracthing...I love a DJ who can scratch good. And Dancing, my favorite part of music period. Watch a hip hop dancer get down, you'll be like "DAYUM".
Rap is just a part of sub culture that you will never know, don't call the people morons. I don't think the people who listen to country are morons, just have different taste.
Music wise, electronic music in general (house, D n B, trance) and hiphop in particular are resonsible for all the dance music that's out right now. The first time I saw 1000+ people all getting down to the same groove was at a trance club. A club, not a concert.

I'll have to find a copy of "The Chronic" and see if it credits who played the flute on that song. However, I know for a fact that Dr. Dre can play the piano and do it with skill and he has an ear for music that is rivaled by very, very few. And apparently, others like his music as well because last year, he made $51.9 MILLION dollars AFTER TAXES, which is more than any other one artist in the ENTIRE music industry (check the new Rolling Stone with Eminem on the cover, it has the Top 100 earners in music). In fact, he clocks in at #2, and thats only behind U2, which made around $10m more, but have to split it up among band members... So I'm sure he could give a fuck if your hillbilly ass likes him or not. Note: Of that $52 million, $0 came from touring, where as U2 and Jimmy Buffett made most or nearly all of their money from touring. He made $2 million off of producing and co-writing ONE SONG alone (Mary J. Blige's "Family Affair").

Igram~cool to see someone from WinterPEG here too bro :fro:

Sales does not equal music. The general public isn't exactly known for their great taste in music. People, in general, are lazy and do not want to have to think about their music, which is why the genreral public mostly has no interest in Jazz or classical. They have to think to comprehend it; it's over most people's heads. Just because a cd sells millions does not make it good, or music.

What I have heard everyone here describe is, in essence, poetry. Rhythm, structure and phrasing are all the building blocks of poetry, albiet music also. But, what separates music from poetry is, again, melody, harmony, consonance, disonance etc.

Not to take anything away from Rap artists, who indeed are very good at what they do, but Rap is syncopated poetry. Many Rap artists are indeed, very talented poets. Musicians, mostly, they are not.

Poetry does not equal music.

Again, this is only my opinion.

What ever happened to just enjoying music? I mean who gives a care if you don't like Rap or Country or Jazz or whatever. I like it all. I'm more of an R&B/Rap fan but I don't cut myself off from everything else. I tend to be more into the music itself. The beats and the instruments. I think the words are good and they can add and enhance the song but if the MUSIC isn't something I can groove to(be it slow or fast, mellow or extreme) then I can't get into it. HEck to show how my taste in music varies(sp)........

I don't know how many people remember the TRANSFORMERS but back in 1986 there was a movie made and later when it came to DVD I bought it. Well some of the scored music for that shit was off the hook for me. Eventually a CD was released that contained the score and I got a hold of it. There is this one track on there called "City Under Siege" and that shit is banging to me. Hard as drums and guitar riffs that just stand out for me. Hell, I play that shit and I'm ready to get busy in the gym for real. It's not R$B or Hip Hop in anyway but I can get down with it because the MUSIC itself just grabs me........

I'm tired of people always debating about what is better. Rap or Rock or Country. Doesn't anyone just enjoy the music and chill. I think it's sad how these talented people in the music biz are treated like crap by the record companies and such. They make the company millions and only get a fraction unless they break out and branch out into other things like acting or something else. But still, I just think you should like what you like and deal with it. There is no need to call one genre garbage when they all have fans.

Just my 2 cents...
