Race-based Scholarships becoming illegal...

You mean all students will have to be judged "... on the content of their character" and their grades rather than the color of their skin??!! How radical!
Sounds great to me.

It's about time......

this was handled in the correct way. I'm sure RyanH will have some type of response on this. Go ahead and make your claim and go in peace and don't start a riot! Oh yea......edit this if you must Ryan since it casts doubts about your issues!

Sounds good to me, too.
Now if cops will stop pulling me over, people stop trying to talk to me in ebonics like I'm some idiot, store security stop following me around and society in general learned to judge people by their character and not melanin content in their skin, it will be all good.
I also hope more whites, asians, hispanics, etc attend historically black colleges. I mean, this is America, correct?:fro:

peace

doh! I never knew FLA scholarships were based on race before.......that is fucked up......
2001 and now they change it

Don't hold your breath, some people live to put down other races.....which in turn they pass on to innocent like their kids.

still happens over here

and religious based as well

:mix:

Its a shame that students are going to be judged by the content of their character. THIS IS AN ABOMINATION!!!!

You guys are just saying that cause you are white! If you were a minority like me you would understand that it is hard to get good grades when you sit around drinking 40's all night and smoking blunts. Can't you guys give me a hand?

True...true.

i have rethought that statement... although it's nice having race as my advantage, i sometimes sell myself short when considering myself as a contender... i recant that statement. i'd go places with or without using my race.

What race are you Al? Were you the Little-titted Amazon Scholarship Award Winner?

Your blonde-haired self benefits from race-based preferences?? Have you been turned down for jobs because of your minorioty appearance?

P.S. - I actually was turned down for a job because I am not a minority woman.

The insults and threats started practically the day Rebecca Porcaro walked into Rainier Beach High School in 1995:

"White slut. Stupid white girl. White bitch, go back to Bellevue. This is our school."

The problem soon escalated to a daily gantlet of merciless harassment both inside and outside class, the 1999 graduate said yesterday. She said she faced constant threats of violence; humiliating and lewd propositions; and insults from fellow students, most aimed at her race.

From my hometown paper: http://seattlep-i.nwsource.com/local/35129_lawsuit14.shtml

This is a good news finally !!!! I'm just waiting for Jesse "Morron" Jackson and RyanH reactions.....

The fight for affirmative action is just BEGINNING......The U.S. Court of Appeals is not the final decision-maker on this matter......Instead, the U.S. Supreme Court will be the final say on this issue.

The United States Supreme Court has previously held that race-conscious programs are constitutional when they are narrowly tailored to achieve a compelling governmental interest. Thus, University of Florida will not be indicative of all the Universities in this nation...The government, in many cases, will have a very compelling interest in redressing previous patterns of discrimination.

The government addresses previous discrimination all the time, and will rightfully continue to do so.

Do you want your schools to look like America or do you want them to look like an affluent surburb in Maryland?

We all stand to gain by having diversity in our schools.

Shit Ryan, if someone dropped you off in the middle of the ghetto and left you, you would be crying like a baby in the fetal position sucking your thumb. Of course you could bullshit them about how liberal you are and how you love blacks, until they forse you to hand over the rims from your Mercedes.

I want our schools to look like big places of learning filled with only qualified students who were evaluated based on their grades. Digusting, eh?

I really don't understand why you continously throw my Mercedes into many of our conversations, when the car I drive is largely irrelevant.

How does my owning a Mercedes have anything to do with this issue, please tell?

RyanH just one question: why should someone smarter see a black man get a scholarship ? I've been taught that in life you need to do your best to achieve your goals. I dont care if a scholarship is decerned to a black, yellow, purple, fag, straight.....as long as he deserved it and worker hard for it I'm OK.

its really odd reading these boards sometimes

over here there are very little race based stuff (the scholarship thing is run typically by private schools and is an investment for them)...in terms of government forcing race based recruitment. but then institutionalised racism is rampant in the military, health service ( :( ) , police, government organisations etc..

im wondering how bad it must be over there for thing like AA and race based scholarships to be required by law. i tend to think it must be a pan ready to boil over from the sheer volume ive read here. i got no problem abuout the threads over the year ive been here else i wouild have piped up about far sooner but it leaves me very curious. many people on this board seem to actually believe that racism for a black person just doesnt exist, its merely a fabrication of ethnic minorities to gain undue assistance in life, that scares/perplexes me the most.

worst still there are only a tiny number of people that realise that no matter what the culture is like, u put young people in a ghetto with drugs ect and chances are they will grow into shitheads.

Because African-Americans through circumstance and history have not been afforded many of the opportunities that the rest of society has been given.

African-Americans are still not on a level playing field with Caucasions......Until they are, the goverment should play a considerable role in ensuring that African-Americans are given access to the same opportunities as the rest of us are given....

Seems like 3 generations on welfare should have been just about enough time...

This racist statement shows why your arguments have often have little merit.

those are cyclical problems you can't blame anyone for... i actually agree with ryan... it goes the same for the aboriginal community here.

I tauht every human being was equal, born with an equal brain so history shouldnt be an issue when its time to determine who's smarter and who can get a scholarship ? I dont get it........

i think it's more about opportunity... for instance, i said once before that since scholarship programs, incentives, etc. have been put in place, the number of aboriginal students in university has skyrocketed. that spells better opportunities and positivity for a community that is wracked with problems of poverty, suicide, and drug abuse.

Yet you avoid elaborating. A game plan lacking in many ways, but at least you don't have to shpow how lacking your own arguments are.
I challenge you to demonstrate how my post was "racist." You can't, can you?
Your own assertion that blacks can't make it without government special treatment is racist as it denigrates the abilities of blacks everywhere.
Why can't you just say that those raised in poverty, regardlesss of race, are at a disadvantage?
Because that wouldn't advance your pet causes now, would it?

Because WeaponX your statement that African Americans have been on welfare for generations is a generalization and leaves out many other facts.

First, PRESIDENT CLINTON IS RESPONSIBLE FOR WELFARE REFORM and African-Americans love him, thus it shows that welfare was not so important to African-Americans, afterall.

Further, your statement is an unfair broad generalization about African-Americans and seems to imply that they have somehow "lived-off" the federal goverment for 3 generations.

You don't think whites have equally clung to the advantages of welfare? Of course they have. You just neglected to mention that all-important, inclusive fact.
