r-ala before a 5k race

i getting ready for a 5k race on thanksgiving morning. when should i start carb loading and is it smart to take r-ala with my carbs?

also what would be the optimal dose of caffeine before the race? what about t-rex?

i ran the course today as my final hard run. i went out alittle too hard and struggled up the hills towards the end. i timed myself at 19:12

i'm hoping with plenty of rest and the right amount of carbs before the race i can run it in the upper 18's
 
i would pop a time release adderoll b4 the race :D
 
You are running a 5K in 18+ mins and you are trying to maximize your performance with performance enhancing substances?

I guess I shouldn't talk since I was trying to get bigger via performance enhancing substances for a bit, yet was not all that big really.

Unless you are going to win the race, I wouldn't bother with caffeine or r-ala for a race. You are more likely to do harm than you will do any good.

When you compete at something, you do so to win.
If you think that the line between winning and losing will be a close one between you and another person - you will do all that you can to move ahead of that line and hope that your opponent doesn't also do this.
This involves training and in some cases supplementation.

18+ minutes hadn't won any race I've ever seen - unless this is you in a one on one again with that marine.

So since you are guaranteed that you won't win, the competitive factor is completely removed from the equation.

That leaves running for the idea of just bettering yourself - usually done for health.
This is seen on a huge scale at every race out there.

Generally speaking, taking a diuretic and/or an upper before a race over any significant distance (what I would call anything over a mile) has a greater chance or hurting you than it does of helping you.

Also, you have enough glycogen stores to run well over 15 miles - to worry about carb loading before a 5K race is like worrying if your half a tank of gas in your car is enough to get you to the end of your driveway.
 
we ran that 400.... i ran it pretty fast, or so i thought. he ran a 54 second 400. i was about (10 feet) behind him. he picked the most inside lane and i took the one next to it. he bascially caught me 2/3's of the way and then passed me on the last 100

for the 5k.... i want to be this girl who runs track for richmond. she ran a 19:03 last year.
 
And another thing....

i liked you better when you were happyscrappy. why are you telling me i suck at running? and why are you ripping me for asking about how i can get the most out of my body on race day? everyone on this site takes steroids and are they pro bodybuilders or professionaly athletes? no!

do i think i can win? not likely considering my best 1 mile time ever was 5:10 and the winning time last year was 15:50. i don't have the VO2 max to maintain a 5 minute mile for 3.1 miles

I never said you suck at running. I said you aren't going to win.

The former is an insult, and the latter is the harsh reality of life.

I am simply telling you not to waste your time and health on something that isn't going to matter for the race.
You don't need to carb load for a 5k, and the caffeine is going to hurt more than it will help for anything over a mile (although the colder temps of a Thanksgiving race would be in your favor).

I haven't said anything up until this point that would be me being a dick - I have been trying to help, but I'm just not saying what you want to hear.
That said - here is me being a dick:

Aren't you a little embarrassed that you have to resort to performance enhancing measures to beat a girl?
