hey guys, im 200 pounds, 6'1- bf, i dunno... not slim but not fat.
im currently trying to bulk up. so im eating as much as possible. 6 times a day. im making sure i eat atleast 1g of protein per pound and also eating lots of healthy carbs. such as , brown rice, wheat pasta, sweet potato, wheat bagels, anything low in the GI. the thing is that although i know i have to eat alot, in order to grow, i dont know how many carbs to eat. im afraid that if i eat too much i will get fat... so whats the normal carb consumption for bulking?

also doing cardio, 15 min, after work outs -4 times a week- to keep the fat gain as low as possible. thanx for any info in advance!

vic

ps. i searched for quite a few weeks before posting, but i couldnt find a post that gave an acurate carb consumption... so if it has been posted, sorry!

just in case, here is my diet:

meal 1. (try to eat most carbs early in the day)
1bagel
1 cup of oatmeal w/ milk + crushed flax seeds.
4oz. turkey
2 full eggs.

meal 2. (if at work, protein bar.)
1-2 cups of wheat pasta
2 cans of tuna
2 tbs of olive oil.

meal 3.
6oz chicken
1 cup brown rice
some olive oil

meal 4. (an hour before work out)
CARBS!
wheat pasta or brown rice
maybe slice of bread
2 cans tuna or ground turkey 97% lean or chicken

meal 5.
post work out shake.
50g protein
50-70g dextrose.
5-10g l-glutamine
i drink half immediatly, and then try to sip the rest for as long as i can.

meal 6 (45-60 min after finishing shake)
6oz chicken breast.
some veggies (aprox 2 cups)

if i didnt get all 200g of protein during the day, i take a shake before bed. that consists of 30-50 g of protein, 8oz 2% milk and 1 tbs PB. the diet varies a little, but i try to keep as close to this as possible. do i need to drop the carbs, or add more?

thanx again guys!

Hey Vic:

I would recommend getting over to Fitday.com and putting all that food into the site so it can calculate your daily calories.

Since you are bulking i would eat 1.5-2.0 grams of protein per body weight and then balance all the other macros.

My protein intake ratios are 40%protein/30%Carbs/30%Fat.

EXAMPLE:
1000Calories
400 Protein
300 Carbs
300 Fat

Remember this is an example. Balanced Meals Spaced out is key.

P.S. Im on my bulker, 3500 Calories. My abs are covered up, but can still see them somewhat. Even tho im eating all that food i still seem to be loosing Fat, and gaining lean muscle.

thanx alot mm, ill go to that website and see what it says. i gotta tell you though, its hard as hell to eat all that food. sometimes im so full after a meal, i could explode. and 2-3 hours later i have to do it again. lol.

i just went to http://michaelandkendra.com/BMRCALC/bmrcalc.htm as recommended. and i found out that for bulking i have to eat 40-40-20. so thats 373 grams of protein/carbs and 89 of fat in order to gain a pound a week. oh man, im in shock! ive been eating so much, but defnetly not near the 373g.... its so much food, i might have to sell my car in order to afford it, lol. also, i have such a hard time already eating 200g of protein daily, i dont know how im gonna add 173g of protein... and like 200g of carbs into my meals.
also, ive read that our body can only digest about 40-50g of protein per meal, so i would have to add 2 more meals to my diet for a total of 8 meals a day. CrAzY...

I hear ya man. I eat a ton, and have to use supplement shakes between meals just to get close to what I need. Its difficult thats for sure :chomp:

yeah it is. what if i dont go up to 373g of protein, and stay at the 250g? will i grow alot less?
what if i go up on the protein but not on the carbs, will i not grow?
im confused, lol. hope some of you guys can help out. thanx!

a gram/lb protein is actually adequate, considering you're getting calories from carbohydrates. A cheap source of protein would be tuna, generic version is around 45-50 cents, pair that up with some type of condiment(if you don't like the taste), whole wheat bread and some vegetables, you have a reasonably clean bulking meal.

so im fine with my diet? or should i add the 173 g of protein like the website says? also, ass carbs?

honestly if i were on a budget and bulking, i would be happy with 1-1.5 gram/lb protein per day, just hit the 1 gram minimum, anymore over is gravy. The rest of my calories would come mostly from carbs with fats making up whatever come in my foods and also supplimented from EFA's (good ones would be olive oil, and omega 3 fish oils). So imo the bulking diet looks decent. If you're gaining too fast or not fast enough, tinker with the amount of carbs in your diet.

also i have no idea what ass carbs are, but i think you should refrain from eating any. :)

LOL! i ment ADD carbs. lol. thanx for the info bro, ill see how it goes. to be honest, i see the gains in muscle, but also fat... i think ill cut down on carbs if by the end of the week i dont feel better about it. thanx !
