questions on some certain foods?

i was reading john hansen's, the natural olympian, training diary leading up to the natural olympia of 2001 on his website, www.naturalolympia.com, and in his diet he would always eat blueberries and pineapple juice in the morning, waht is good about these foods?, arent there much better substitutes?
 
well i dont know what advantages these fruits have in terms of body building, but in terms of allergies to foods..some people can tolerate few fruits. For example, I can not eat oranges, but have no problem with blueberries....
 
I'm sure he eats them because he enjoys them more than anything else. I love bananas and strawberries over anything else.
 
no that isnt all he was eating, here is an example of one of his days.
Meal 1 - 1 egg, 9 egg whites, 1 cup oatmeal, 3/4 cup blueberries, 1/2 cup pineapple juice.

Meal 2 - Protein Drink (2 cups water, 2 servings Profusion protein powder, 120 grams banana, 1 T. flaxseed oil).

Meal 3 - 4 oz. extra lean turkey breast, 3/4 cup brown rice, 4 T. salsa, 1 cup Health Valley 14 garden vegetable soup.

Meal 4 - Protein Drink (2 cups water, Muscle Meals meal replacement, 110 grams banana), 1/2 cup oat bran, 3/4 cup blueberries.

Meal 5 - Protein Drink (2 cups water, 2 serving Profusion protein powder, 120 grams banana).

Meal 6 - 6 oz. salmon, 3 T. salsa, 40 grams whole wheat pasta, 1 teaspoon Butterbuds, vegetable salad, 2 T. Italian Lite dressing.

i am assuming it is probably cuz he just likes them more i guess
 
That looks similar to my daily intake only difference is that i eat more carbs (bulking), and only take 2 shakes a day and usually replace his third shake with red meat. Usually extra lean ground beef mixed with onions, red peppers and spices with a whole wheat tortilla wrap.
 
blueberries are rich in vitamins A and C
and in an anthocyanosides (anti oxydants)
