Sparatcus, our neighbors were funeral home owners in the 80 ;s and 90;s and Buddyt was always speaking of weird things that would occur with bodies> is it true that a corpse loses bodily functions when is dies? Is it true that corpse sit up on the table due to air being trapped in there lungs? How do you handle the smell? Do you ever get wigged out in the middle of the night imbalming? Thanks man... I could not do your job. however I have had a couple of friends that were morticians and they drank heavily and were the funniest people I had ever been around.

that's all bullshit

the smells are what you can't get used to really
the bad cases

on another note I could do a 30+ minute standup comedy routine on the mortuary biz

They have a mortuary science program at the local community college in New Orleans.

Once when I visited a friend there, amd they let a cadaver get away from them in the smell department.

I believe it was the most awful smell I've ever experienced.

they call it the weight of the soul... nice way of saying your loved one shit and pissed themselves after death.

i've seen bodies twitch after death (WAY creepy)

Thanks for clarifying it.. thats what I have always been told...

Seriously now, where do you stick those needles in to do the embalming... what happens to the guts? They dissolve?

do you believe in ghosts? have you ever experienced anything you would classify as 'paranormal'?

do their toes turn green like in the lamisil commercials?

what do you do when you pack the cavities and find out they have warts and such there

do the dicks stay hard all the time?

do you stare at them?

do you touch them?

I wouldn't.

Ironically enough the police just arrested a group of men that were going around to funeral homes in SC offering the funeral directors money to spend some time with the freshest male corpses>

that's the "death rattle"
that's over by the time I'm there

"A death rattle is a gurgling or rattle-like noise produced shortly before or after death by the accumulation of excessive respiratory secretions in the throat.

Those who are dying may lose their ability to swallow, resulting in such an accumulation. While it is medically established that the death rattle is a strong indication that someone is near death, it can also be produced by other problems that cause interference with the swallowing reflex, for instance, brain injuries."

I make an incision just above the clavicle
I get the carotid artery and jugular vein
I inject the chemicals into the carotid artery towards the heart and the embalming solution travels throughout the circulatory system under pressure and is absorbed by the tissues
the blood is forced out through the jugular vein

I don't directly deal with the organs unless it's an autopsied case

how much force is required to push that stuff in them since the heart isn't beating anymore?

concerning the loss of bodily functions
many of these elderly people have lost the "tightness" of the anus over the years so they often shit themselves in their last months/years
or they just don't care and shit themselves anyhow and let the nurses clean them up

I wouldn't want to be one of those nurses
dealing with that daily
at least when I have to clean them up they're dead and I can take more liberty with moving them and I have a spray apparatus that comes down from the ceiling
so I hose them off

Seriously now, have you strode up to the table with just your undies on and looked them in the face and yelled...

"THIS! IS! SPARTA(cus)!
TONIGHT YOU DINE IN HELL!"

is it true their foreskin falls off?
no

I've had a few playboy quality cases (car accidents & suicides)
but they're dead so there's not any attractiveness there
I can still appreciate a good figure but that's about the same as my appreciation of a really bad figure
like 400lb + obese cases

People do, or at least can, lose bodily function when they die. A friend's mother shat when she died of cancer. My sister said cadavers did move sometimes when she was in med school but I doubt they sat totally upright.

many diabetic cases their toes are purple and necrosis has started

I pack the cavities on autopsied cases and as far as weird stuff
I've seen so much weird stuff I don't really think about it unless it impacts how I'm going to embalm

dicks aren't hard
damn bro you know you need circulation for an erection

I don't stare at them
hell I have cable TV in the prep room and will keep an eye on a game or the news often once I've started injecting
but I'm usually consistently doing a task during the procedure
bathing the body while massaging the limbs to ease the blood travel along
so I soap down the body and massage with soap and wash the hair etc. while the chemicals are being injected

Tell us what you consider to be "weird stuff" that you have seen?

That happened to my mom when she died. Then, she had a bunch of fluids in her mouth and her mouth was open, so I sopped it up with a wash cloth before the coroner got there and took her away.
