do any women here feel that there is a major patriarchy going on at elite? if women don't act like eye candy generally it's not accepted... the elder members tend to garner more respect, etc. i remember going on as one of the male members of the board and i flamed someone with sarcasm and they backed down immediately unlike usual, and i got props from the guys. it's sociologically fascinating...

i've just been thinking about this lately.
 
yeah, I do know what you mean about the eye candy stuff. I keep thinking, damn, should I put a tit shot up as my avatar, maybe I'll get more karma? And then I remember, oh yeah, I don't have any tits to shoot :lmao:

I won't ever post a tits or butt shot for my avatar...but that is just me. If other women want to...more power to them! I really have no need to bow down to every guy on here, either. I am always just myself and if people don't like me for that...then that's okay.
 
There are only a small number of women here that I would consider funny. On the flip side, there are many more funny guys, even when proportion is taken into account. I have a somewhat warped sense of humor, but that's my observation. Now heed my first post.

Many times Ihave laughed at some of the stuff the broads put up.

And I do think most are intelligent.

But why do chicks always need to be complimented.Isn't leering at all of you from out in the bushes enough?:D

I hear ya smalls. I notice how most of the women have posted a pic of themselves somewhere or another on the site or in their avatar, but not many of the guys have. It's as if the girls have to prove that they are not butt ugly, but meanwhile the guys don't feel like they have to 'prove' themselves to be good-looking.


*I* shall give you props (& karma) for this...if I can.

It's just like life.

Sometimes you have to brainy, sometimes sexy, sometime patient and sometimes resourceful.

The thing about being eye candy - is knowing that you don't have to be and function equally as well either way.
 
I think it *can* be true.

There are definitely women on the boards who are smart and funny and get too little credit for it, and there are definitely women who contribute little but are flirty and get rewarded for that. And then there are the plain old web exhibitionists.

I think a lot of our teenage readers have a lot of trouble telling which are which, and those are the ones who put up the endless "show me a tit, j/k" messages. I think most of those guys are pretty harmless and they generally know not to do that on the women's board.

The ones who bug me are the ones who *want* the women to be eye candy and rag on anyone who is really attempting to build up to anything beyond baywatch fitness levels.

I do think, however, that the board is good in that when you're on the chat etc boards, more or less anything goes, but that crap is pretty much not acceptable on the women's board. I guess you can't stop the rest of the people from thinking whatever the hell they want to, but you can set ground rules for certain areas, and that seems to work well. Consider when BOT had all his threads taken off the women's board recently for saying that anyone who built up was sick, anyone who took steroids (any woman that is) was nuts, blah blah.

i mean, there are worse things to be called... but you rarely see compliments of intelligence or wit. compare on the say something nice about another member thread with the compliments towards the men.

But really, the way I look at it is, if I enjoy someone's personality it is a given that their intelligence is also a reason for my friendship. I admire many qualities about women and intelligence is just as important as any other quality.

I couldn't care less if anyone thought I was witty, funny, sexy, intelligent, ect.

I do care what my close friends and family think of me, but these "mystery" people on the net, please, I don't give a shit

no one really knows you anyhow---even in real life, so you can't take anything to heart.....the good or the bad
 
oh i didn't mean it about me necessarily, though i think it can apply.

i just meant it more as an observation of the social dynamics of the board. i wonder how it applies in the real world...

Good point. I doubt she takes any of it to heart. I know I don't. But I think her point is, or at least I took it as that just that sometimes it seems like such a Boy's Club around here, where a woman is either ignored or flamed unless they're considered 'eye candy'. Otherwise intelligent, witty, or sarcastic remarks might be misinterpreted unless you follow it with a flash of ta-tas. (Not that I'm opposed to that per say). :D

Of course, this is a very generalized statement because there are ALOT of guys on this board too that do not act like chauvinistic pigs and are respectful to women and recognize wit and intelligence eye candy or not. ;)
 
lol, i know what you are saying smalls, and yes there is a patriarchy here on EF but remeber its a bodybuilding/fitness site and that has always been seen as a male dominated area. I try to compliment people based on my perception and observation of them and only ask for pics jokingly, yes men are pigs and women are from venus! :rolleyes:

Wonder? I take it you haven't been out in the 'real world' yet? :)Well, speaking from personal experience, I'd say it reflects fairly accurately in any environment where the ratio of males to females is overpowering. Let's put it this way, if I make a joke at a meeting that is mostly males, I get nothing. A few minutes later, copycat guy will make a smilar comment and everyone laughs. This isn't an isolated incident, this has happened alot. I think that is similar to your experience of getting props for flaming someone as a male, whereas you might not have as yourself.

well, i can't say where i'm working right now is accurate since women outnumber men.. the only thing i have noticed is men (DUMB men, or any man) who come(s) into the organisation moves up much more quickly in pay and stature. when i truly get out into the workforce i'll see what happens..

Is it fair? No, of course not. Some men look at a woman and the first thing they notice is her looks or the way she dresses. They can spend an entire day talking with you about a project you are working on together at work. I have never understood the how or why of this, maybe it's insecurities on the man's part. I'm not sure.

On a side note. Why do some women seem so callous towards other women who succeed in the business world?:confused:
You would think that they would be more supportive of another woman succeeding?

i don't know... it sucks because i've seen it. some women in power think they have to be as hard as balls to get respect i guess.

I have a hard time getting close to females....they seem very fake, and competitive. Not all females but most.

Question for the guys:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think there is pressure from other guys to have a piece of "eye candy" to take home. Is it all about having a "hot piece of ass" and having other guys look up to you? maybe this is where guys tend to be more picky about a chicks appearance

Maybe when you are younger you look for just eye candy, but as you mature you realize that you need more for a healthy relationship. Notice that I said as you mature and not as you get older because I know too many men in their 30's and 40's who still haven't figured that out.

Fact - Guys are stimulated visually.

To be attracted to a female, from a man's perspective, usually starts with the way a woman looks.

Yes, to be turned on by woman's intellect is highly desirable, but usually follows the visual thing.


In today's society woman are held to a higher standard physically and men are held to a high standard monetarily. If we have looks but no $$$ we tend to not get shit. Likewise, the dolt with the green gets the fine ladies.


Most guys would rather have a beautiful woman than a smart one and if they say otherwise they are lying. Most men do not want to be with a total idiot though, who does? In my experience women care about $$$ not the way a guy looks, and they don't really care if he is slightly fat or not (as long as he is providing financial security.

women dont get involved too much in the discussion-y threads ive noticed. if they did im sure they wouldnt get flamed. with a pic of themselves in an avatar im sure they would get many compliments but their posts would fall on deaf ears, ive agreed and disagreed with lots of women on this board before, and respect a few too :)

Well, I do find several women on here attractive...and I may tell them that on here too. I would never have the guts to tell them that in person though...I am just very shy like that.

I know that this is just the internet...but when people are on a board such as this...for extended periods of time (one year, two years...) you really begin to get to know some people....and even meet a few of them. So...I dont' really consider this board the real 'internet.' Granted there are your freaks everywhere...but I think you all know what I mean.

It hurts because you actually talk to these people...everyday...and you even know some of them....very personally. That is why it hurts some people...and a lot of people don't really take that into consideration.

I generally try to avoid them because someone usually says something that makes me mad and ruins my whole day, which would defeat the purpose of me being here....
 
For the record, there's a lot of girls I totally respect--not for their volumptious boobies or round tight buttockses, but for their charm and wit.

I'd like to especially mention several to bloat their already over inflated egos.

-Smallmovesal (always, my number one EF junkie--she's probably the most intelligent girl with looks that could stop traffic)
-Pink233 (has to be THE single funniest, cutest, most charming girl i've talked to ever)
-Phatchick (her honesty and beauty are matched by her fair and modest character as well as her innocence)
-PolarPixie (she's most recently had me getting strange glances from passerby's from snickering or laughing at the screen.)
-Toga (I've never met a kinder and gentler heart)
-Virtual Acid (not on here too often, but always a riot to chat with on aol--she's so refreshing with her openness and willingness to talk about anything)
-NightFly (for her flat out honesty and sincere kindness that could smother the most cold hearted! Plus her smile lights up the screen)
-Velvett(I'd say that we both got off on a very bad foot, but she has turned out to be the sweetest person. She tolerated my hard-headedness and is a very fair and good moderator. She just sucks at arguing!!! She's truly a sweetheart, though)

These are the most recent girls that come to mind. I don't communicate with these girls in hopes of someday meeting them for a late night encounter. I respect each and everyone for who they are--characters that liven up the joint. I talk to them, because they balance out all this testosterone. There's a bunch of fucked up women in this world...I've seen the worst of em. These girls restore my faith in the opposite sex.

Plus, they each have great assets.

I work at a lumber company-- at my location there are almost 300 men and less than 10 women. I'm used to being outnumbered by men. Some people treat me like an equal and some like a piece of ass. I handle it by not really caring what most people think and having a sense of humor.
