Question for PC guys (thats personal computer , not liberals)

Guys, I have a weird RAM setup in my PC. Its an AMD 3000+ with an Asus motherboard, and my ram is 512. But its configured like this: 256mb 2700 ddr and 256 mb 3200 ddr. This is because the PC used to be 2000+ , but it burnt out, so I salvaged what peices were left, and I got the 2700ddr and the harddrive out of it. So anyways, I got a new motherboard , processor, vid card and 256 3200 ddr. So question: I want to upgrade my 512mbs to 1 gig, so the next 512 I want to add is just strictly 3200DDR- doable? Thanks.

I'm thinking that mix-n-match is a bad idea with RAM. Get 1 gig of 3200DDR and toss out the old sticks.

Or at least toss out the 2700 and get a 256 @ 3200 and a 512 @ 3200.

It will probably work with mixed ram but it's not optimal. Sell the 2700 stick to someone with an old machine or use it as jewellery

There used to be memory testers that would find the "fast" RAM in your PC in order to make better use of it... but that was back in the Win 3.1 days when people were still fitting programs around Bill G's 640KB screwup.

Stuff is still pretty cheap, especially if you can fit more than one stick. Two 512 cheaper than one 1GB and so forth.
