Question for guys who are dads.....

Ok my friend just had a new baby a week ago. His wife was paid during her maternity leave from work the last month of her pregnancy and then has one more month paid vacation. nice hustle, i know.

however, do dads ever catch a break? men are the alpha (well some men u fuckin faggots) and bring home the proverbial "bacon." But this friend I have has gone thru just as much stress (mentally/emotionally) and hasnt gotten any sleep the past week yet still has to get up every morning at 5:30 (to beat the l.a. traffic) and comes home at 9 pm (due to l.a. traffic once again) and his job doesnt cut him any slack.

did any fathers on the board get some sort of hook up from work? or do any companies/businesses/employers even offer men a "break" due to a new baby?

My friends threw me a diaper party, does that count?
 
Fathers have the EXACT same rights to "maternity" leave as women. It has been Federal Law since I believe 1998. But only one parent can invoke it at a time I believe. (example: If you have a mom who doesn't work you cant take the 3 months off.....you have to provide proof that the other parent has returned to work before you invoke the law) It's called the Family Medical Leave act or some thing like that. I had a bro who took 90 days under the law since his wife made $200k a year and he made like $35! It is unpaid leave od course but they have to return you to your job or the equivilent.
 
In Canada, the maternity / paternity leave can be split between parents. For our second son, I took one month from my wife's leave to help out at home. I also took two months off as well (unpaid).

It wasn't enough. It never is. :D
 
I was fortunate enough to be unemployed when my baby was born. For those 2 months, wifey slept, while I did the night-time feeding & changing. :heart: It was worth it.
 
my company gives 1 week paterinity leave. You can take more off if you like, paid if you have vacation, unpaid if you don't.

I dont think it has anything to do with the other parent's employment status. Each parent is entitled under the Family Medical Leave Act a certain amount of time (like a short leave of absence) wherein their employer must hold their job for them. The law says nothing about being paid during that time. It is unpaid unless the employer envokes a policy on their own of paying the employee, or if the employee has accrued a certain amount of paid leave, they can utilize the paid leave during that time as well. I believe, in accordance with the Law, you can get up to 12 weeks of FMLA which requires the employer to not change your employment status while you are gone. I was actually out on FMLA for 4 months when my son was born, but my employer was lenient and approved my extended leave time, unpaid of course after I utilized all the paid vacation time I had accrued. For me it was 6 weeks paid, the rest was unpaid.

Starting next year fathers in Germany get 1 month "Paternity leave" paid, of course.

I remember how it was, I could sleep through that whole month
