question about weighlifting books

I’ve been lifting since high school. I'm 31 now. My knowledge in lifting is not so advance though, basically very little besides what I've learned in high school and from friends. I know the basic lifts like bench, squats, dead lifts, power cleans, beginner dumbbell exercises, lat pull downs, tricep extensions, beginners crap etc etc. I lift 3 times a week. Day 1 is usually chest and triceps. Day 2 - leg exercises like squats, calf raises, and leg extensions and leg curls. Day 3 - back, shoulders, biceps. Same old exercises week after week. Workouts usually last 30-45 min. Finding time is hard especially having a full time job and a family. I also do aerobics three times a week for 30 minutes as well. Health wise, my joints are getting sorer these days. Worst joint, my knees. They’re not bad shape. I think it’s all the aerobic exercise that I do on the tred mill and stair master. A lot of wear and tear on them from those machines, plus running. Going to change it up with swimming here shortly.

My goal in life now: stay fit and tone. Not looking to build bodymass. Increasing strength is fine, but not my main objective. Are there any books out there to help me out? I live in a small town and personal trainers are out of the question. I want to incorporate new exercises besides the generalize beginners stuff that I know. I just bought the book Men's Health Power Lifting by Robert dos Remedios. Just started the workout yesterday. So far, it seems good but is this a good book for what I need? Or is there something better out there? I know I read a few forums about Rippetoe's Starting Strength and Practical Programming? For what I need, would this be a better book for me to use instead of MH Powerlifting by Robert? Or is there something better out there for me? I greatly appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks,
Red

Let me tell that the best thing you are going to do is to change those cardio workouts for swimming. Swimming you'll give you the total body cardio workout plus the water relaxment and will help on your joints. A pharmaceutical grade fish-oil supplement also helps on the soreness, go google and check it. That book by Robert dos Remedios is very interesting, i have it and I like it. But don't go too fancy w the advanced moves. Good Luck!

get your self a decent pair of shoes for running, asics kayanos are great
load up on joint repair supps
gluc.chon.msn/fish oil
apparently cissus is the new amazing joint relief supp, although i havent tried it yet
swimming is prob the best cardio tho but not always time efficient

PM EF Frank bro. He'll cut you a deal on a E-Book.
