I’ve been lifting since high school. I'm 31 now. My knowledge in lifting is not so advance though, basically very little besides what I've learned in high school and from friends. I know the basic lifts like bench, squats, dead lifts, power cleans, beginner dumbbell exercises, lat pull downs, tricep extensions, beginners crap etc etc. I lift 3 times a week. Day 1 is usually chest and triceps. Day 2 - leg exercises like squats, calf raises, and leg extensions and leg curls. Day 3 - back, shoulders, biceps. Same old exercises week after week. Workouts usually last 30-45 min. Finding time is hard especially having a full time job and a family. I also do aerobics three times a week for 30 minutes as well. Health wise, my joints are getting sorer these days. Worst joint, my knees. They’re not bad shape. I think it’s all the aerobic exercise that I do on the tred mill and stair master. A lot of wear and tear on them from those machines, plus running. Going to change it up with swimming here shortly.
My goal in life now: stay fit and tone. Not looking to build bodymass. Increasing strength is fine, but not my main objective. Are there any books out there to help me out? I live in a small town and personal trainers are out of the question. I want to incorporate new exercises besides the generalize beginners stuff that I know. I just bought the book Men's Health Power Lifting by Robert dos Remedios. Just started the workout yesterday. So far, it seems good but is this a good book for what I need? Or is there something better out there? I know I read a few forums about Rippetoe's Starting Strength and Practical Programming? For what I need, would this be a better book for me to use instead of MH Powerlifting by Robert? Or is there something better out there for me? I greatly appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks,
Red
