Question about tuna fish......curious.....

Ok, damn these university foods and there prices. Screw it, I don't need to be eating that shit anyway. Regardless, I'm going to start taking meals and eating while I'm walking. So, for lunch, it will partly consist of a can of tuna fish. I'm not planning on taking a can opener with me to open up the can, I just thought I'd make my lunch the night before, and put it in a tupaware (sp) container and eat it as I was walking. My question though, does tuna go bad after its opened and sitting? I mean, this container is going to be in my backpack and I'm going to be lugging it around. My first class is from 9:30 to 10:50, so it would be sitting basically from around 8:30 to 11:00ish or so. I don't see anything on the label that says refridgerate after opening like you do on most things, and the last thing I need is damn food poisoning (sp). Any ideas? My logic goes like this, I'm taking it out of one air tight container, and putting it in another, so it should be ok? Anyone?

That would also depend if you put anything in the tuna. If it's just tuna you'll be ok but if you add mayo you'll be one sick MOFO. Either way is gonna stick from the heat in your backpack. Good luck with the ladies..

The tuna will be in the Tupaware container maybe mixed with a little ketchup or something. NOT MAYO, I think tuna is nasty as hell with mayo. So with the ketchup and Tuna I'll be ok, right?

Do you have a fridge with a freezer??? You can buy those blue things at the store that you freeze and put in with your lunch to keep it cold. It will probably be okay but as a mommy my advice would be to get yourself an insulated lunch bag and put the cold pack in it.

So are the polls kinda split here? One person thinks I'll be ok and others don't?

use barbecue sauce or fat free salad dressing.

also, polar tuna has a pop top, so you do not need a can opener.

I think it'll be OK if you don't add anything. If you need to add ketchup still some packets from a fast food place. And I would go get one of those lunch boxes Temple01 suggested.

Tuna fish out at room temp for 2 1/2 hours? You'll be fine, man. Think of all the construction workers and little kids out there with unrefridgerated tuna sandwiches every day. They ain't droppin' dead, and neither will you.

YOU'LL BE FINE.

Do like Temple said, get you a couple of those blue freezer pouches and put one in the bag where you carry your tuna. It will stay frozen for at least 3 or 4 hours. Then you just pop it back into the freezer to refreeze it.

Ha...just take the can opener with you! That's what I always do...granted I get some stares, but hey...it's a good conversation piece!

ok, here's what Ive got it down to. I'm going to make a Tuna fish sandwhich the night before, wrap it in foil, and put it in the fridge. I'll take it out around 830-845 and put it in my backpack, no blue thinggies, no nothing, just foil and a paper sack or tupawear container, and then eat it at around 1055 or so. Whatcha think? I'll be ok?

You'll be fine. And what's more, as much as you're worrying about this, you're gonna feel fuckin' immortal when you come through it ok.

"Behold! I can eat a warm tunafish sandwich!! Bow your heads before me, ye mere mortal men!!!" :FRlol::elephant:

IMO it's about 90% that the Tuna will be OK after 2.5 hours.

Personally, I'm not a gambling Man. That small chance of getting a few bad bacteria in the tuna when you are scooping it from the can to the tupperware is worth keeping it cool.

There are soft flexible BLUE ICE pouches that are small and will keep the tuna cool in case you get delayed in eating it.

Imagine if you can't eat it at 11, and you say " oh I'll eat it after my next class. It'll be OK"..

No worries if you keep it cool....

Either that or buy the Bag tuna and carry a few fast food rest Ketchup packs.
