Question about tuna,....curious..........

Ok, damn these university foods and there prices. Screw it, I don't need to be eating that shit anyway. Regardless, I'm going to start taking meals and eating while I'm walking. So, for lunch, it will partly consist of a can of tuna fish. I'm not planning on taking a can opener with me to open up the can, I just thought I'd make my lunch the night before, and put it in a tupaware (sp) container and eat it as I was walking. My question though, does tuna go bad after its opened and sitting? I mean, this container is going to be in my backpack and I'm going to be lugging it around. My first class is from 9:30 to 10:50, so it would be sitting basically from around 8:30 to 11:00ish or so. I don't see anything on the label that says refridgerate after opening like you do on most things, and the last thing I need is damn food poisoning (sp). Any ideas? My logic goes like this, I'm taking it out of one air tight container, and putting it in another, so it should be ok? Anyone?

this is what I do. Prepare all my food for the time I will be at school 3-4 meals....and put them in a cooler...keep them in my truck...then in between classes go out to truck and get my food. Or if it's time to eat while still in class...leave lecture to go chow...or take it with you if you time it right.

*** see my post on Tuna on the Muscle food board.

It should be fine, but I've taken a can opener with me to work many times, works great.

Buy the tuna in the sealed packs. Just rip the top off and you are ready to go. It will fit in your back pack better too.

I'll have to walk a long way to class so going to the vehicle is not an option. and I think the packets of tuna are nasty. So if I mix the tuna with some ketchup, throw in two slices of bread and put it in some foil and put it in a tupawear container, I'll be ok?

ok, here's what Ive got it down to. I'm going to make a Tuna fish sandwhich the night before, wrap it in foil, and put it in the fridge. I'll take it out around 830-845 and put it in my backpack, and then eat it at around 1055 or so. Whatcha think?

I used to put three (count 'em, THREE) cans of raw tuna in a tuperware container went I went to work. I would work the Twilight shift for four hours and then eat my tuna during the break betweeen shifts. It sat at room temperature in the container for four hours and I had no problems, did this everyday. You will be fine!
I don't know how the foil pouch tuna tastes, but it's fucking expensive compared to the cans. Cans are def. the way to go.
Enjoy!

You couls just get one of those small vinyl coolers that will fit in your school bag, and that refreezable ice block stuff. Then you know for sure that it will be cold when you eat it.

what i do is at the start of each week get a 4 kilo can of "soup kitchen" tuna; mix it with miracle whip, and put it in a huge tupper wear container, and throw it in the fridge. Every morning i just make 4-5 sandwiches and im ready to gp for the day.

Oh the point: Adding miracle whip will extent the shelf life of tuna; like i said i make enough for the whole week. it tastes really good cold too. chop in some carrots and celery if you wish.

One thing though; you may want to "mask" the smell of the sandwiches wth A1 bbq sauce like me; otherwise there will be some very unhappy people sitting next to you while you'rs eating.:)

Good luck

bro you'll be fine. Didnt your mom ever pack tuna sandwiches when u were in grade school? they were always fine right!

That's cute... :)

Umm.. I dunno I gave a steel stomach... I've eaten green chick once and felt fine... but I ALWAYS take busses, no car... tote EVERYTHING with me... I drink shakes that are in my bag all day... and I've eaten tuna with Mayo/mustard that's been left in my bag for 16 hours... I've been ok so far... (Shit I just jinxed the whole deal...) hehehe.

Haha....my sentiments exactly.

My flatmates banned me from eating tuna...LOL
The smell got literally everywhere.

Bars are the best option.

Tuna with ketchup??? That's a new one for me. I don't know if i could get that down. But to each his own i guess, good luck pal, your sandwich will be fine if it's only been a couple hours, even after half the day it'll still be fine!
