question about serving jail time.

let's say you are found guilty in court on december 5th. you're sentenced to anywhere from 2-30 days in jail.

do they give you a timeframe to choose which days you will serve it?

how long after the conviction do you usually have to serve it?

You do not choose, they tell you when your sentence will start. The only time it is delayed is if you appeal it or the lawyer can work out a few days for you to get your affairs in order. Being that it looks like 30 days max, it is not that serious.

The second answer is sometimes they take you right at the verdict and keep you till sentencing. Or they give you a date to be sentenced.

30 days? You should be able to do that standing on your head.

Last time i was arrested it was in a prison in deep siberia, so i don't really know how it is in the states. It was 22 may 2001 i was found guilty in court, i proposed to start my time in 23 may 2072, but they didn't accepted. (still now i am not sure why)

any idea when someone would serve their time usually? the court date is the 1st week of december, and the person is supposed to be out fo the state from dec. 20th to jan. 20th.

I'd say usually a week within sentencing especially for a such minor sentence the judge usually will give you time to get your affairs in order. It all depends though, the judge make you serve imediately. I like I know who was convicted on a 2nd DUI and had to serve 2 weeks. I think it was about a week after he was sentenced before he went to jail.

Try and postpone the court date until 1-20 then. If you can't then you are beat.

LMAO!!!.........THEY GIVE YOU SOMETHING ALRIGHT BUT ITS NOT A TIME FRAME. MORE LIKE A DATE TO REPORT (IF YOU DONT HAVE TO REPORT RIGHT THEN).

i didn't mean have as in how much time will they allow me to serve it. i meant how long after the conviction will i be forced to serve it.

i'm making this confusing...reread the sentence saying hafe insted of have. (if that makes sense)

in most cases you are taken into custody at the date of sentencing : in your case december 5th. have your attorney mention to the judge that you are expected to be out of town on those dates as a family member is very ill. have this said and he may be leanient on you. they don't know if a family member is sick or not

A FRIEND OF MINE JUST GOT SENTENCED TO 10 MONTHS FOR A FELONY DRUG CHARGE. HE HAS TO REPORT THE FIRST WEEK OF JAN.

i see. i figured maybe they would say, "you have until dec. 31st to serve x number of days, which days would you like to serve it over?"

also, i have school until the 18th. i can't go to jail if i'm in school can i?

people have jobs and serve jail time so yes you can if you have school. why not ask for probation from the courts, much better then jail. what was the crime?
