Question about Police Seizures

If the police search a car and nobody is there that owns it, they decide for whatever reason they have the right to search the car, and find illegal substances, what do they do?

Do they seize the goods and leave the car unlocked and just go on their way?
Do they wait for someone to reture or seize the goods and charge the owner?
Do they seize the evidence and have the car impounded?

A friend of mine believes his car was searched and some gear was taken because people told him cops were checking out his car when he was inside his apt. They made no attempt whatsoever to either secure the car, as in even lock the doors, or notify the owner that the vehicle had been searched. You think they would at least leave a note or something?

Thanks, bros!

I found some Ray-Ban aviator's in my car one day and noone I know wheres those kind of glasses.
I really think there was a cop in my car that summer.

legaly they have to have justifiable cause to do a search w/out a warrant. and most of the time if the owner is not arround they might wait till they return to start the ?s. if thats the case they have no justifiable cause or reasonable doubt to a crime. just a suspicion, and thats not enuf w/out a warrant. but then again they do what they want now dont they. if they did search the car and found some gear they liked what they got and decided they needed it more than your friend did. they dont say shit cause your friend aint gonna report stolen illeagal gear. no prob for them. just a come up for the pigs in their eyes.

Lock your car bros, better yet don't take your gear outta your house. Thats the only place you got half an iota of constitutional protection these days.
