question about maintenence level?

When bulking, is there such a thing as, "too many calories"? Say my maintenence level is 3000 cals, and I want to bulk, how many cals do i REALLY need?? I mean, I hear people talking about, "Eat 5,000 cals when bulking!" Now, when its bulking season, Im not afraid to gain some weight and get a little fat, but, I dont want to have to burn off lbs and lbs of excess fat when its time to cut.
So, the question is....
With a maintenence level of around 3000 cals, if I want to bulk, what number of calories would be sufficient for max growth along with minimal fat gains?
Thanks.

i dont think straight calories per say is the answer to bulking, its more of the nutrient breakdown, and the food sources. conversely, it would probably be about 750 - 1000 additional calories to achieve gains and minimize fat if bulking without adding too much fat is your goal
