Question about Lottery dollars...

Ok, on the news they said that the Florida Lottery pumps over 1 million dollars in revenue into the state PER DAY!

Yes, per day. That is over 7 million dollars per week. This is AFTER they deduct the amount that is going into the jackpot for the lottery winner.

My question.... where the fuck does the money go? That is over 365 million per year. It is suppose to fund education and such. I don't see new schools being built. I don't see new classrooms being furnished with computers and such. Hell, just 1 million would redo an entire school system.

So what do they do with it?

They've pulled a fast one and offset the tax reveneus that they collect for the same purpose and put those in the general fund so they can use that money for any dumb ass thing they want.

Basically, they took all the money already collected via taxes and budgeted for Education
and moved it/ used it somewhere else.
And then backfilled that budget with the Lottery collected money.

So you are not adding to the Tax funded Education budget already collected, you are replacing it with lottery earnings.

Also it takes millions to run this damn thing, and they take that out as well from the education bucket..

This is why I voted against the slot machines in south florida because
they could not spell out how, who, what, where they were gonna use the revenues.

Just that it was gonna cost X dollars to manage it and they MAY use the revenues
for schools.. May..

I was wondering the same thing here in KS. All these mofos do is cry and bitch sbout being broke and having to raise taxes and along comes the lotto and were still in the same fucking boat. The elite are going to make us poor fucks pay for everything, no matter ehat kinda money they have. Just a city the size of Newark NJ has a yearly school budget in excess of the entire years lottery earnings you mentioned. A school system the size of NYC's (just the city, not the entire state) costs in excess of 10 billion a year to run.

$00 million in a state budget, especially one as large as Floridas, likely wouldnt even cover the cost of new windows when spread over the entire state

New York generated $5.3 Billion in 2003.

Oh..and Miami is working on a private casino that will pump about $150 Million annually into the Miami city coffers.

You didn't read my post properly then. The Lotto is not the SOLE purpose of education. It is SUPPLEMENTAL. As in "extra". Yet you never see nothing going into the system. NOt from the regular Edu. budget or from the supplemental one.

My point was only AAP that things are far more expensive than you may have considered. Even if devoted entirely to education, 365 wouldnt make more than a minimal impact in any but the smallest of states like Arkansas.

In many states, the funda are earmarked by law, meaning they have to go to specific budgetary items like education. But in reality money is a fungible commodity, so does more actually get spent (I doubt it).

I dont support the lottery system, and think it should be outlawed. It preys on the weak and the weak minded. The social benefit is largely manufactured, and in essence it is nothing more than a hidden tax on the poor and desperate.

Miami still has to do a city referendum...but when Florida shot down the recent referendum vote, they passed a rule allowing Miami and somewhere else the chance to vote a second time.

It will be a casino like you find in Monaco, not an Indian gaming casino...but only if the city follows thru with their vote...which is going to be hella-expensive.

Hey Hammy..the initial slots vote for Broward and Miami Dade Counties is set for like March 8th or May 8th.

If approved, the City of Miami can seek approval for the full size casino they are considering.
