Quaker oats instant bad?

The instant oats are processed more so that they cook faster. Try to get the "old-fashioned" oats. These take longer to cook, but I think they are less processed and therefore preferable. Ang

Even the old fashioned only take 2.5-3 min to cook in the microwave. Mix in a little splenda (no sugar) and they are YUMMY!

i guess ill be carrying little zip lock bags with old fashioned oats with me. thanks guys.

I keep a big bag of them at work w/ a scoop in it. Hell I carry a big bag of old-fashioned oatmeal w/ me just about every where. I often wonder if they think I"m smuggling drugs in my suitcase between the bags of oatmeal, the bags of protein mix & the other assorted stuff - glutamine powder, flax meal, etc.

LOL!

Yeah I was worried about my ziplock full of vanilla protien powder! (ever seen anthrax spores? They look exactly the same!).

I'll be travelling next week -- can't wait to see the reaction on my protein powder in bags.....

I've been doing it for 5 yrs now. I imagine they wonder for a minute, but it's never been a problem. Just make sure you double bag in case you get a blow out.

I was reading in Oxygen mag, that very question (Issue: Feb 2005 page: 72)
Question: Is quicker Quaker better? Marla Duncan Answered. She said that this was one of the toughest questions she has received in a long time. To make a long answer short; after comparing the two, visiting the web sites they are both the exactly the same. the only difference is that one is one take 1 min to cook and the other 15.

lol I'm the same way, I have ziplocks all over the damn place.

I'd say instant Quaker oats are better than alot of garbage you could eat for breakfast.

However, given the choice of oats, and the relative ease of preparing slow cooking oats, why would anyone choose instant? As was mentioned, microwaving "regular" oats is only 3 minutes in the morning. Stick em in the microwave and go take a shit, or brush your teeth (or do both at the same time). By the time you come back you have a bowl of healthy, slow cooking, oatmeal.

Never mind the namby pamby flavours of that instant stuff. Just add cinnamon and some salt to your old fashioned oats (and sweetener if you desire) and chow down baby! MMMMMMMMMmmmmmm!

Process the shit out of any food and it's nutritional value goes to hell. That's what instant oats is - over processed (but still better than pop tarts...lol!).

What a good idea!! I wouldn't have thought of that.....

Can't wait to see the security people's reaction at the airport....
Should be interesting....

opening our lugges and they would see cans of tuna, whey powder, oats, etc.. and they would wonder.. who are these aliens ???

as well as being so easy to prepare regular oats also cost a fraction of the branded ones & are just as nutritionally complete.why pay extra for the fancy packaging & a bit of added sweetner?

There is no difference between the 1 minute and Old Fashion oatmeal except for physical processing that decreases the size of the actual oatmeal. The sole purpose of this is to increase cooking times. Besides the actual size of the groat/oatmeal, they are the same. The nutritional value is the same. The GI/Glycemic load difference is very marginal. Therefore, I would pick whichever one fits better to your tastes, $$$$, and time management.

The crap in the packets, which is loaded with sugar, is the junk you need to avoid.
